Trying to Explain 3G
March 11th, 20093G or third generation phones are a new innovation in the field of telecommunication and these have many advantages over 2G phones in terms of speed and coverage area. The advantages primarily emanate from the fact that 3G networks allow for more efficient use of spectrum than 2G technology. Most of the high end mobile devices these days are 3G compatible and as the technology becomes more widespread almost all phones will come equipped with 3G services. Here are some advantages of 3G technology:
Cheaper Call Rates for Users: As the spectrum efficiency is more in case of 3G, more number of calls can be supported at a given time, this means relatively lesser call rates
Enhanced Security: 3G offers enhanced security both at the 3G network infrastructure security level and at the end to end security level. The encryption offered by KASUMI block crypto of 3G networks leads to better and stronger security than the A5/1 stream cipher of 2G networks.
Faster Data Transfer Rates: This is the most appealing advantage of 3G networks and 3G phones. 3G networks have the ability to provide data transfer speeds of up to 14.4 Mbit/s which is many times higher than that possible in 2G networks.
Advantages of faster data transfer rates include better download speed, better upload speed, and faster surfing speed. 3G technologies need the use of 3G phones. Backed by the strong 3G technology, 3G phones have a lot of applications to offer, here are some tasks that can be performed by 3G phones:
Some applications of 3G phones
Downloading: Downloading time is drastically reduced with a 3G connection and even large files can be downloaded in seconds.
Online Media: This is an exciting avenue that 3G phones offer; one can now enjoy online music, play online games and watch online movies on the cell phone.
Video conferencing: Video conferencing can now be done over the phone and the option of video conferencing on the go makes this feature even more exciting.
Faster Internet Connectivity: A 3G phone can provide high speed internet connectivity for personal computers and laptops. The phone can be used as a modem with the computer or laptop to instantly surf the internet.
One thing to remember is to check the bands of 3G phones. In North America we need to have a 850 HSDPA band to be able to use the phone. If your phone doesn’t have that band it will not use 3G. It will still work on the edge network but speeds will be limited. In case you are unsure you can always check with us at puremobile first.
