Samsung Omnia breathes new life into Windows smartphone OS

By Megan Fleet

Samsung Omnia breathes new life into Windows smartphone OS

Some people would look at current market share distribution for Windows OS smartphones and give a shrug “meh – 2% of the market? Not a likely contender.” It is true that Microsoft hasn’t had the easiest road breaking into this new era of pocket PCs (aka smartphones), but the latest joint venture with European feature phone giant, Nokia, looks to be a step in the right direction. What would a giant step in the right direction be? Pairing up its OS with a Samsung handset. This is precisely what they have down with the Samsung i8350 Omnia W, a move that is bound to shake things up as Samsung has quickly become the Android golden child of smartphone manufacturing.  Let the latest trend setting fashionable accessories express your unique style!  Discover award-wining design protective cases and skins that deliver modern style, stunning design and smart protection.  Make your mobile devices stand out.  Customize your look – how cool can you be?

Time for the good, the bad, the ugly and a few ideas of rectifying some of the bad and ugly.  The Omnia W isn’t revolutionary. It’s a far sight more attractive than its predecessor, the Omnia S, but is still a midrange phone intended to compete in the North American market. Its most notable features? Powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU and the Mango 7.5 OS, great battery life and screen clarity with the Super AMOLED touchscreen, Mobile Office document viewer / editor (one of the features that makes this a great buy for business professionals), and a multitude of social network integration and cloud services.   break free from long-term locked in service contract… unlocked cell phones enable you to enjoy the freedom of choosing your service provider and negotiating the service plan that best meets your interactive lifestyle.

Now for where the Omnia S is lacking… Storage (it is non-expandable and there is no mass storage), no Flash support in browser (so no streaming your favorite guilty pleasure from ABC.com while on the go), and no video support are the most notable. Luckily these are shortcomings are either addressable by purchasing external storage or SD memory cards and investing in a separate media device for shooting video and streaming Flash content.

While the Omnia S doesn’t have the most dazzling internal stats, processor, or operating system, this Windows / Samsung collaboration does hit the intended mark of being elegant, aesthetically pleasing, business oriented smartphone for the a midrange market that integrates the best part of Microsoft and Windows: ease of use. They have made social media, texting, and the new ways we communicate all integral in the People Hub and have stayed with the current “Siri” trend of voice activated commands.

For its shortcomings, there seem to be few that can’t be overcome with a bit of extracurricular accessory acquisitions and eventual Windows OS updates. As with any smartphone, this writer chalks much of it up to personal preference and how individuals use their devices. With plenty of unlocked phones, OS, and competitive carriers out there, it is a buyer’s market. So investigate the options, usage plans, and your must-haves in a mobile device and happy hunting!

Leaving your valuable mobile devices unprotected is risky!  The latest innovative protection solutions allow you to protect your devices from scratches and blemishes with stylish top brand bags, sleeves and cases.  Tough on the outside, sweet on the inside our brand name protection accessories combine complete device coverage with sleek artistic expression.

Expert Says Watch for Amazon Kindle Fire in Q4

With the recent release of the Amazon Kindle fire, industry experts are now beginning to forecast the success of the device based on the various rumors and speculations that are all over the Internet. Numerous sources are suggesting that the Amazon Kindle fire may be able to sell upwards of 5 million units in Q4 2011. This would equate to roughly 50% of the sales of the leading tablet Apple iPAD.

Expert Says Watch for Amazon Kindle Fire in Q4

This is new territory for the industry as a whole as it is the first time a non-mobile manufacturer has entered into the tablet space. They have partnered with them to produce a customized and affordable tablet around the Amazon suite of services.

The price point of the tablet being significantly cheaper than competitors is the primary reason that Amazon may indeed sell 5 million units over the next few months. In addition, they have quite a substantial user base of both regular Kindle users as well as overall consumers that have a lot of trust in the Amazon brand.

Expert Says Watch for Amazon Kindle Fire in Q4It is rumored that Amazon has already pre-ordered 4 million units of the Amazon Kindle fire with another report suggesting that there is a demand for even more. Only time will tell if this is the case but expects these types of announcements to have an impact for consumers in a positive way. It will force manufacturers of tablets to really consider consumer needs and factor in price as a key component of the offering. The ability to price the tablet at an affordable price point will definitely open up a new potential consumer for the devices. Amazon has already identified that reality and positioned the Amazon Kindle fire in that market segment. Let another war begin and hopefully we as users will continue to benefit with lower pricing and powerful features possible with android-based tablets.

Samsung Canada is looking to give away for new tablets to users. The tablets that they are going to be given away are the unlocked Samsung Galaxy S II, which has quickly become the most popular tablet for the company. They are going to also be giving away a number of other devices as part of their “23 days of smartphone giveaways” promotion that they have been running for quite some time.

Samsung Canada Will Give Away 4 New Galaxy S II Devices

In all, four of these devices will be given away to lucky fans that have been entering the contest. Information on how to take part has been posted on their social networking profiles including twitter and Facebook. The rules say that there is no purchase necessary to take part in the contest, and that it purchased will not increase your chances of winning the contest. As of right now the contest is only open to legal residents of Canada, except for residents who were in Québec.

Samsung Canada has been running number of highly popular promotions over the course of the last few months, and this one seems to be the most popular that they have released so far. Overall the promotions have been highly successful as of late, and have really drummed up a lot of support for multiple different devices.

If this continues to be successful for the company, you can expect them to launch a number of other promotional contests in order to promote their products or work. The Samsung Galaxy S II unlocked has been a highly popular tablet for a company that has had a hard time breaking into the tablet industry in a real way. Giving away 4 different devices should raise awareness about the device, especially since they will have so many entrances into the contest.

Samsung Profits Fall Over 26%

Samsung Profits Fall Over 26%Samsung’s profits through a total of 26% during the second quarter of 2011. This information was disclosed in a report that the company released sometime today. Operating profits of the firm total $3.5 billion American, which is down from a total of 4.7 billion during this same time period last year. according to a recent survey that was conducted by the boomer group, which includes six different analysis firms, the Korean companies display is expected to post a total operating loss of over 5 billion on, which translates to a rough total of $69 million American. This is done from a total of 827 million points to American dollars in profit that the company saw during the second quarter of 2010.

This comes on the heels of Samsung having to fight multiple lawsuits in court. The most famous of these lawsuits came from Apple about a company that claimed that Samsung had infringed on their patents and copyright, by releasing a number of copycat mobile devices. To make matters worse, Apple is the largest LCD screen by or from Samsung, prompting some rumors that the company would look elsewhere for the manufacturing of their LCD screens.

Apple is the largest LCD screen

As of right now, things are not looking good for Samsung. Verify multiple lawsuits, have seen dwindling profits over the course of the last few quarters, and may have to start releasing plan devices based on the patents they infringed on our health by Apple. it will be interesting to see if the company is able to pull out from this prophet knows not, and get back onto the same tract that they were last year when they were a highly profitable company. A fall in profits of over 26% is a huge amount of the mobile industry, and many companies failed to rebound from such a steep slide in profits one recent example is the company research in motion, a company that is known for producing blackberry mobile phones such as unlocked Bold 9780, Cure 8520, etc., who has also seen their market shares and profits dive in recent months.

New Samsung mobile phone starts to make waves in Korea

SHW-A250 is another cell phone by Samsung made only for Korea. Resembling the full touch  screen Corby, it has a 2.8 inch screen, Bluetooth connectivity, 2 megapixel camera, a micro SD card  slot and media player. On top of this, it also has the country wise differing features such as maps, TV receiver, and SOS function.

The A250 will be sold by Korea’s top two operators, KT and SK Telecom. While SK Telecom will be offering the Black and White versions, KT will also sell the brown and pink versions. The Price will be around $423 which is about 50,000 won; presumably it is the contract free price.

Again, it’s neither a thing that the people residing in the West would be able to get their hands on nor something that they need. If Unlocked Samsung (A250) sounds good, it’s better to grab the original Corby, it is essentially the same device barring the mobile TV facility and subway maps which is unlikely to be used anyways. This is a huge move for Samsung as Korea is a high consumer of electronic goods specially handsets and given The Corby’s track records in other countries Samsung should have high expectations from SHW-A250.

The Samsung groups headquarter is situated in Seoul, South Korea and it is South Korea’s largest chaebol or business conglomerate and world’s largest conglomerate in terms of revenue thus the launching of the new phone in Korea does sound like the beginning of another success story.

Rogers Has the New Samsung Corby Touch All To Itself

Rogers Communications Inc., one of Canada’s largest communication companies, dealing mainly with wireless communications, is set to launch a new Corby phone. It has its headquarters in Toronto, Ontario. In November 2004 the company purchased Fido and created Canada’s largest wireless carrier which surpassed Bell Mobility. They soon started operating on the High Speed Packet Access commonly known as HSPA and GSM. Even if Rogers had achieved a lot of success they were criticised because their voice calls and data prices were comparatively higher than other OECD markets.

After the Unlocked Samsung Corby Pro and Samsung Corby Plus,Rogers is launching another Corby named Samsung Corby Touch T566. Samsung has especially designed this phone for the Canadian company Rogers. This phone like all the other Corby phones has a touchscreen which has a virtual QWERTY keypad, 2.0 Mega Pixel camera with 2X zoom, HTML browser, TouchWiz, Java : MIDP 2.1, a MP3 music player, microSD expansion till 32GB, voice recognition system and Bluetooth connectivity. The battery is superb and allows one to talk on like for 400 hours of standby time (on 3G). Corby’s changeable colourful fashion jackets are really stylish. Nowadays youngsters match their phones and dresses.

The cell phone also has 21 new convenient widgets and users can download maximum of 75 from the official Samsung website. It’s also preloaded with social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Picassa and YouTube. The phone has not yet been launched on any carrier website but most probably Rogers is set to launch it on Pay As You Go for quite a decent price.

The company’s first products were radios and it was mainly involved with radio broadcasting. It was founded by Edward S. Rogers Sr. and was initially called Rogers Radio Broadcasting Limited. Later on the company moved into wireless communications and telephone services.

International Samsung Galaxy S to receive Android 2.2 (Froyo) in September

The Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S as recently started tests of its Android 2.2 Froyo platform and although there are a few recent leaks that have flooded the markets, nothing has yet been confirmed as to when the software upgrade will actually be made available. However, if the Samsung Galaxy S Twitter account is to be believed, you can expect this release in September. Before you do get your hopes up, remember that this release is only intended for those that have the original international version of the Samsung Galaxy S and not the American version. Although you can expect that the US version will soon be released, Samsung keeps changing its plans and as such, it is probable that it will receive the Froyo much faster than t would be released for any other sites.

The main reason as to why there is the possibility of an increase in the updates of Android for the Samsung Galaxy S is mainly because the TouchWiz UI found on the phone is not deeply integrated as compared to many other Android capable cell phones such as the HTC Sense. At the same time, since there is heavy customization on the HTC Sense, getting a newer version of the Android would be quite difficult as the UI goes in quite deep.

As for the Samsung Galaxy S, you can easily expect that the Froyo will be rolled out by the end of September which does not seem too far away. The only problem that the Galaxy might face is that there might a newer and better phone that will be released having Froyo.

Considering the fact that the Samsung Unlocked Galaxy S is by far a very good device to have, we are still wondering what else we can expect by September when the release is out. Chances are that the 3G Mobile Hotspot feature would be left out on this release.

Samsung Galaxy S hits the million marks

Samsung, the Korean electronics giant has claimed to have plans of moving 10 million pieces of their latest creation, the highly desired Android smartphone, the Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S. The phone, their latest addition to the Android world is supposedly quite a creation and the company is said to have high hopes surrounding it. The company has sold 300,000 pieces in its own place and over 10 million units all over the world.

Two things about the news is however still unclear- whether the company’s claim state their plans for this lone year only, and since nothing has been mentioned about the time period, one would hope that it is. The next is whether the proclaimed number includes the soon to be launched Galaxy S Pro, which is known to be Samsung Unlocked (Epic 4G). This however we presume doesn’t.

While considering the claims placed by the company one must not forget that the device in question is one of the most in demand smartphone market and possesses features to die for. The super gorgeous 4-inch WVGA Super AMOLED touch screen, 1-GHz processor, 5-megapixel camera, HSPA Rev, Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth, 3.5mm audio jack, light, proximity and accelerometer sensors, microSD of up to 32GB along with a stylish and sleek exterior all adds to its appeal. And the device is also being offered in multiple carriers unlike other high-end smartphones, which have exclusive carrier contracts. So considering all of these there is no reason to doubt whether Samsung will reach its goal.

Also not forgetting the back to school sales it is seen to become considerably easy for Samsung to achieve what they claim. It is however yet to be seen whether the company can fight of the other biggies like Motorola, HTC and Apple’s Unlocked Iphones 4 or if it succumbs to the pressure and loses out in the long run. But as of now in view of their current progress one wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung’s competitors were the one to tighten their shoelaces.

Bell launches Samsung Wave and Entro

As a sort of buffer to the soon to be released Samsung Unlocked ( Gravity Touch) , and to come close on the heels of the release of the same phone Wave on the Canadian major carrier Rogers, Bell has decided to release the Wave and the Entro very soon. The Wave which had released earlier is by now more or less familiar to us in terms of the excellent new features that it provides. Most importantly, this phone is a landmark as it marks the first time that Samsung will be releasing its indigenously developed OS the Bada.

This new release will be very important for the mobile phone market in Canada as it marks the beginning of the release of other new variants of this OS the Bada SDK which will have newer features. The Bada currently is a little low on the aspect of apps but this will soon improve. Furthermore this will also have features like the social hub where you can manage all your emails, social networking accounts. The Wave will also have the Unlocked Samsung ( TouchWiz 3.0) which allows you to customize your home screen. Most notably, the Wave comes with the brilliant super AMOLED screen which gives the iPhone’s Retina display a run for the money.  The other Entro will be carrying a 1.3 megapixel camera along with GPS and Bluetooth. This phone most interestingly will be running on CDMA which has again shown up after the HSPA+ issues.

So if you want to go for a rather economical option for a smart phone then the Wave and the Entro are really good options for a good price of $29.95 with the customary two year contract. However for the customer wanting a better option than this, the Samsung Galaxy S is soon to be coming onto Bell.
