It’s been quite some time since rumours were doing the rounds regarding Motorola splitting their empire into two halves. Now the news has been confirmed. Motorola is indeed dividing their company into two segments within the first quarter of next year. Many of you who have been a keen watcher of the cell phone industry and how it has shaped must be remembering that model RAZ which had been a ‘must have’ for many-a-tech fan. But Motorola has failed to revive their past glory days.
The first segment, one which handles the manufacturing of the equipments that make the operators, the networks segment is rumoured to be sold off to the Nokia Siemens Networks at a moderate costing of $1.2 billion. Wall street journal is set on announcing the final outcome of the company within these few days.
One also hears that there has been a Chinese infrastructure company, Huawei that has liquidated funds and cut down prices drastically so as to buy off Motorola’s networks division. But if sources are correct, it seems that the American government wasn’t too keen on doing such a ‘rash’ business and turned it down saying that they weren’t too comfortable with the sale. It’s not only that the Americans who seem to be flinching at the Chinese vendors, but recently even the Indian government condemned the buying of equipment from the Chinese vendors on account of the poor quality.
Motorola has been doing meek business these days in comparison to their earlier profit margins. They had launched the android models recently which were to an extent a success, given the fact that they were competing against the Apple’s Unlocked iPhone 4 launch. But it seems that Motorola needs to pull out more tricks from up its sleeve if it thinks of staying in the completion against the Nokia network.

Unlocked Smartphones were given a whole new dimension by Apple when it introduced its iPhone. Since then, it has been a steady competition between several companies to outwit the other in the smartphones market. Some have been able to gain prominence while others have lacked quality and have slipped into oblivion. ChangeWave surveys indicate a great demand for smartphones recently with a great number of people looking to buy a smartphone. Demand has never been so much before.

Apple still reigns supreme even though there have been a few minor hiccups recently with the iPhone 4 antenna issue being the most prominent. However, the number of other quality features iPhones offer separate it from the rest and still gives it the edge over others. Other companies are hot on their heels though and Apple should be looking to go one better by adding more features to the already existing brilliant retina display and other features.

IPhone 4 Unlocked handset is particularly being rivaled by Android. This has led to HTC getting a lot of attention and quite a few would rather go for HTC EVO 4Gor HTC droid incredible than iPhone 4. This is huge concern for Apple. HTC is constantly running out of supplies because of the great demand lately. Apple needs to be aware of the fact that the rivalry is strong and they need to address the fact fast.
RIM and Motorola are seriously out of the competition if they can’t come up with innovative features. The blackberry unlocked phones have been sorely disappointing lately. Even ardent Blackberry lovers believe that although the phones have undergone refreshing updates, it is still no match for Apple. Motorola is more or less in the same situation and needs to upgrade very soon. Maybe the competition will reach new heights in the recent future.

Furthermore, with this format, you can zoom in or out from our document also on the iPhone and the iPad. With the Google Docs, you can actually use it to view and work on pre stored spreadsheets. This is great for small enterprises who often work for filing income reports on the fly. This really helps as the mobile tabulating softwares do cost a lot. It is really a bit of a surprise that the Google Docs are not available on the BlackBerry which however should be made available in due time.
Google has encouragingly done some amount of up gradation on the Google Doc to include all the recent formats. This has been officially released on the Google Docs blogs. You can store a number of documents up to 1 GB on the Google Docs portal and can access these files without having to download them directly from your mobile device which was not possible until very recently.

With arrival of Google on the mobile scene, things were certain to change. So it comes as no surprise that many different developers have started creating a wide variety of applications specifically for this operating system. In fact, it has today been claimed that there are over 65,000 different applications that are available for users running Android on their smartphones. In fact, Google’s Andy Rubin has said that there are around 160,000 android activations taking place daily. This coupled with there being over 65,000 applications in the Android Market make Unlocked Google’s Nexus One Android operating system another priceless piece of software to have. Considering the fact that Android is only a couple of years old, has resulted in it being aptly termed a ‘revolution’.

A few months ago, it was revealed by Google that most devices of Android were being activated at around 100,000 per day. At that time, the total number of applications present was noted as 50,000. A few weeks later and these applications have increased by 15,000. These statistics are indication of the market share of the Android. Recent surveys have pegged Google Android as having a total market share of 33% by 2012. The past few months have seen a rapid rise in the number of Android based applications being made available for customers. In spite of the fact that Apples iPhone Unlocked Gadget is being put on the shelf, Google is not back down and when partnered together with various device manufacturers such as HTC and Motorola, you know that Apple will have to face some competition. Considering the numerous applications available on Android seems to suggest that many do prefer it when choosing any operating system. So the next time you plan on purchasing any mobile, it might be wise to ensure that you are getting the Android as the sheer numbers of applications available implies you will never be left wanting more.

Knowing that the recent launch of the IPhone 4 Unlocked gadget would set tongues wagging, OS2 has taken preventive measures by discontinuing all their unlimited data plans. So do not expect to gain any adjusted rates for a current unlimited plan you might have from O2. Starting from 24th June, all users of O2 will now have to spend to avail of internet package plans. If you plan on making use of the 500 MB monthly data plan, you will need to spend approximately $30-$42 per month, whereas should you plan on choosing the 750MB plan, you will have to spend $48 to $55 per month. There is also an additional plan offering 1GB data transfer for $70 per month. Such plans are inclusive of voice and texting options.

Says a representative of O2, “We now have specific plans that our users can avail of with the iPhone. Irrespective of whether you are an existing or new subscriber, you have the option of choosing an 18 or 24 month tariff. At the same time, you can also decide to pay the complete unlocked iPhone 4 Pay & Go price and simply choose a monthly iPhone tariff. With every plan of ours that you choose, you can be certain of availing of unlimited Wi-Fi and Visual Voicemail.”
Considering the fact that O2 is not the only carrier deciding to move away from unlimited plans, it looks like the life of such unlimited data transfer plans is limited. Recently AT&T also announced that they no longer have any unlimited data transfer plans available for subscribers- you now have to purchase 200 MB for $15 and 2GB for $25 a month. Even Verizon has come up with limited data transfer plans.
While the death of such unlimited data plans is not well like by many, there are others that find such limited plans more cost efficient for the amount of data they use per month.
