Let’s face it, the only type of statistics that are typically relevant in the smart phone marketplace are those released by Apple. The industry has been waiting for a long time for a competitor to step up and provide some decent numbers in terms of volume.
The Samsung Galaxy S can officially now be considered as a major player in the marketplace. As a result of their great design, superior speed, and unique features, they should now be spoken in the same conversation as the iPhone. In fact many industry experts believe that the Samsung Galaxy S II is superior to the unlocked iPhone 4 in terms of features and sheer speed.
Samsung recently released figures that states that the Galaxy S as a brand has sold over 30 million units to date. This marks probably the second most popular smart phone to ever been released aside from the Apple iPhone.
Sales of the Samsung Galaxy S II have been nothing more than fantastic. Samsung recently dubbed the phone at the most successful phone ever sold in a month of July. Within a 55 day time span the Samsung Galaxy S II sold in excess of 3 million units.
It’s fair to say that we can officially consider this phone is a serious iPhone competitor and that moving forward comparisons will be made between the two. It’s about time another manufacturer developed a phone that is capable of seriously competing with the Apple iPhone across several areas including design, features, and overall user experience. Many of the features of the unlocked Samsung Galaxy S II are actually better than that of the iPhone. Samsung just needs to do a better job of showcasing these features to the end user. Hopefully we’ll see some creative commercials come out in the near future in attempt to do exactly just that.

With the recent release of the Amazon Kindle fire, industry experts are now beginning to forecast the success of the device based on the various rumors and speculations that are all over the Internet. Numerous sources are suggesting that the Amazon Kindle fire may be able to sell upwards of 5 million units in Q4 2011. This would equate to roughly 50% of the sales of the leading tablet Apple iPAD.

This is new territory for the industry as a whole as it is the first time a non-mobile manufacturer has entered into the tablet space. They have partnered with them to produce a customized and affordable tablet around the Amazon suite of services.
The price point of the tablet being significantly cheaper than competitors is the primary reason that Amazon may indeed sell 5 million units over the next few months. In addition, they have quite a substantial user base of both regular Kindle users as well as overall consumers that have a lot of trust in the Amazon brand.
It is rumored that Amazon has already pre-ordered 4 million units of the Amazon Kindle fire with another report suggesting that there is a demand for even more. Only time will tell if this is the case but expects these types of announcements to have an impact for consumers in a positive way. It will force manufacturers of tablets to really consider consumer needs and factor in price as a key component of the offering. The ability to price the tablet at an affordable price point will definitely open up a new potential consumer for the devices. Amazon has already identified that reality and positioned the Amazon Kindle fire in that market segment. Let another war begin and hopefully we as users will continue to benefit with lower pricing and powerful features possible with android-based tablets.

The iPhone 4S was officially announced by Apple at last week’s press conference. With the vast majority of the upgrades being on the hardware side, it was a little unclear as to whether the phone was any different than the iPhone 4S aside from the camera enhancements that can be easily understood. Since the release there’s been additional follow-ups and information provided that showcases the upgrades of the unlocked iPhone 4S.
Apple has recently released a series of ads showcasing their Siri technology new to the Apple iPhone 4S. in usual Apple style, they showcase the features in a stylish and fun commercial that gives you a clear understanding of the benefits of the new service.
So what other improvements have been made to the iPhone 4S that make it worth the upgrade or investment. There is been a benchmark video recently released that digs deeper into the hardware of the iPhone 4S and the results appear to be promising.
We are not going to get too technical in providing the benchmark results. We can say however that in terms of sheer speed the unlocked iPhone 4S as is as much is two times faster than its predecessor the iPhone 4. Areas affected in the speed enhancements includes general web browsing speed as well as the load times for external technologies such as JavaScript.
The video also shows how to configure and optimize the setup to use the new Apple Siri features. With proper configuration you can activate the program based on the positioning of the iPhone 4S. In traditional Apple style we are slowly seeing the benefits of the iPhone 4S and we can look forward to additional videos and commercials that show off its features in a way that the average user can associate with and appreciate.

By no means is this article an official release or news of the Samsung Galaxy S III but the rumor mill online is suggesting that specs have been made available to certain partners. It is hard to imagine that they are already working on a newer version of their most successfully launched Smart phone in the history of Samsung. But apparently, this is the case as someone has leaked a screen capture of a presentation that appears to promote some of the new features of the phone.
The slide suggests that the phone will be released in 2012 and the hardware specs will be upgraded as part of Samsung’s third-generation lineup of galaxy phones. The processor will be a dual core Exynos 4212 chip. It will come with 2 GB of RAM a 4.6 super Amoled plus HD display and a camera with 12 megapixel capacity.
Compared to the unlocked Samsung Galaxy S II model, the next-generation version will be slightly thinner and have support for a couple of the newer technologies such as NFC chip installed and support for the high-speed wireless LTE network.
Be warned however that there are some discrepancies in the slide that was provided as proof of the leak. Some of the specs of the earlier version of the Samsung Galaxy S are not correct suggesting that the slide may be a fake and not legitimately produced by Samsung.
With the recent press conference from Apple and the disappointing specifications of the unlocked iPhone 4S, other manufacturers are trying to take advantage of the week features and align and their new offerings with all the features that would be expected in this day and age of technology. LTE high-speed network compatibility and an installed NFC chip is becoming the new standard and leak clearly shows that all manufacturers are building their new devices with these features installed.

Let’s lay down the hard facts about the new unlocked iPhone 4S released by Apple this past week. Since the majority of the new features are hardware-based, we’ll take a look at those as well as mention some of the more important software updates that were mentioned at the press conference.

On the hardware side of things there has been major upgrades to the unlocked iPhone 4 that will have a significant impact on the performance. First off, the processor in the phone has been upgraded to the A5. This has increased the performance and speed of the phone by as much as 70%.
Unlocked iphone 4S Camera:
Previously the camera on the iPhone 4 was average at best. Apple has really taken the time to try and make significant improvements to the camera and it appears they’ve been successful. New is the amount of megapixels on the phone which has been upgraded to 8 megapixels. This coupled with a better sensor, a better lens, and more lighting makes taking pictures on the iPhone enjoyable.

Unlocked iphone 4S New Feature:
On the software side of things the most significant improvement has been in the area of notifications. They’ve introduced a new feature called Apple Siri that allows the unlocked iPhone 4S to take voice commands and return to you the relevant answer to the command. In addition they totally reworked the functionality of notifications. It appears that new version has been well thought out and is more practical in terms of functionality.
Unlocked iphone 4S OS:
The above are the most significant improvements made in the new release of the iPhone 4S. With an upgrade to their operating system the iOS 5, the combined efforts of the new Apple iPhone 4S unlocked make it a worthy option for those looking for the top-of-the-line smart phone. In a nutshell, Apple has taken the most successful mobile phone of all time and made it better.

So the iPhone press conference has come and gone and we now know what Apple has released in terms of new features. The next question that needs to be asked is what’s in store for next version of the iPhone. Well, the Internet has done its thing and there is already speculation on when the next iPhone will be available and the types of features that we should expect.
The next iPhone device is set to be released at the end of 2012 or in early 2013. One of the major features that will be included is the support for LTE high-speed network capabilities. There had already been a few mobile phone carriers that have upgraded their network and now support LTE. It is believed that the iPhone will support this speed in their next release which at that point should be the iPhone 5.
Another feature to expect in the next generation is the support for NFC technology. For those of you that don’t know what that is, it’s basically a chip that is included on the phone that is capable of being used for mobile transactions. Over the last few months we’ve heard about several partnerships and services launched that use this technology and it is clear that is the wave of the future for mobile payments.
It would have been nice to see these features included at the press conference this week and the new iPhone. Unfortunately we are going to have to wait for the next generation in order to take advantage of the technology that is available to us now. The effects that this will have on Apple are unknown but we’ll know quite shortly based on the adoption of these new technologies in the mobile marketplace.

With all of the hype surrounding their recent press release I have to admit I’m a little disappointed. There is been a lot of talk about the new iPhone 5 that was set to be released in early October in time for the Christmas holiday. The reality is however that Apple simply decided to upgrade their existing unlock iPhone 4 with hardware upgrades a better camera and a few other insignificant enhancements.
For a few years now we have become used to a yearly release of a new iPhone available for their most loyal fans. The industry seems to be catching up slowly and it has always being deemed important for Apple to push the envelope on technology by always being one step ahead of the game. It’s fair to say that competitors may have caught up for good as these minor upgrades are nothing more than a more powerful version of their existing phone.
The question can be asked as to whether we have the right to feel this way after all the iPhone 4 is officially the top best-selling phone of all time. Never in the history of the world has a phone sold more units than this one which was released a little over a year ago. In that respect I don’t think we should be complaining as the iPhone 4 is still a fantastic option if you want to get into the Smartphone game.
So Apple’s rise to greatness is not only because of their ability to launch fantastic phones, but also knowing when to take a step back and only release something when it’s ready. It’s clear that Apple is not quite comfortable with the features of the iPhone 5 to justify a completely new phone and new version. Instead they opted to make major hardware updates to the unlock iPhone 4 naming it the iPhone 4S.

The recent Apple press conference was as usual filled with fun facts and data about the health of Apple as a company. Whatever metrics that looks good was included in the presentation given by Tim Cook. Even though this was mainly an iPhone event they did not hesitate in sharing their growth in other areas of their business.
The main announcement about their other business was in the areas of the iMac and Macbook sales in the last quarter. The reports indicate that they now have 23% of the entire PC market making them the number one option on a by brand level in the world. Growth over last year was a 23% increase versus a mere 4 percent growth by other PC manufacturers. This of course is very encouraging news for Apple and a sign of where the market will ultimately be in the coming years. As for other hard numbers, Tim Cook mentions that Apple now has over 60 million users around the world. With the sheer volume of PC owners he notes that there is still a long way to go an opportunity to do even more sales.
Apple is smart to keep these variables as part of the success factors for the company. As competitors enter into the Smartphone space capturing more and more market share, it is important for Apple to be engaged in as many other businesses to spread them out a little. It will leave them less vulnerable to any major shift in the industry and give them the ability to communicate with users across various media consumption channels. We applaud their vision and have to thank them for all the innovation they have brought to the market. It is because of them that we have more interesting options that are pushing the boundaries of innovation.

The Apple press conference has come and gone and we can now reflect on the features of the iPhone and all the speculation that preceded the launch. For a while now we’ve been seeing newly designed cases by many manufacturers who have had pictures of their products leaked. Included is also a rendering of the iPhone 5 and what it is supposed to look like.
The key features that we were able to see if that the screen size of the iPhone 5 uses up more surface area then the versions before it. As a result the cases are now practically flush against the edges of the phone casing. They refer to this as the edge to edge display of the iPhone 5 screen. Another key change to the phone is that the home button is slightly wider than before. This is a natural change as the button is used for pretty much all forms of navigation that is not touch screen related. This includes getting to the app menu and other common activities.
Now that the Apple press conference has concluded and all there is to know about the iPhone is officially known, it is fair to say that many of the manufacturers were not wrong in the designs. As an industry there needs to is a more open environment where Apple can provide feature updates themselves without manufacturers accidently leaking the information? Doing so will build even more anticipation of new Apple devices, what information is made available, and the means in which the information is distributed. For the last couple of iPhone releases there has always been the situation where a developer went into a bar and had their phone stolen. It is close to being unbelievable at this stage and is even made fun of by the late night TV talk shows. I think we would all prefer to just get the information straight from Apple.

Recent numbers by Net Applications suggest that Apple is continuing to dominate the market for several of their operating systems. The Apple iOS that manages their mobile device users appears to have 54.65% of global market share in September. This is up from the 53.04% reported in August. The Java ME platform came in at a distant second with an 18.52% market share while Android such as unlocked Samsung Nexus S right behind them with a 16.25% market share. The remaining mobile operating systems in the report have Symbian coming in at 6.12% and Blackberry a measly 3.29% which is low compared to the market share Blackberry had no to long ago.
The Apple Mac OS X is also gaining ground in the computer operating space as well. This month has been their best yet coming in with a 6.25% market share which is slightly up from 6.03% in the previous month. Not surprisingly, Microsoft continues to dominate that space with a commanding 92.44% market share. Leaving little left in the market has Linux coming in at 1.11% which is very small and insignificant. Sure the market share will continue to change in Apple’s favor month over month but with such a commanding lead in the market, the apple percentage will be insignificant for a very long time.
As for the mobile operating systems, the upcoming release of the iPhone 5 should change the landscape once again in the coming months. More importantly this will be the first iPhone release without Steve Jobs. Will be interested to see how the sales and market share is impacted. If the past is any indication, iPhone 5 sales will be big over the next 3 months solidifying them as the leading company in the marketplace that is more and more crowded every day.
