Dell Streak now available, Announcement Made Tuesday

On Tuesday Dell announced through a blog post that they would now be offering their huge unlocked Dell Streak device that will be available in both white and red. The phone is known for having a huge screen and has garnered a lot of attention from the media as a device that is partially a phone, and is also partially a tablet.

Dell also announced that the device would be sold completely unlocked and without contract from their website. At 5 inches in size, the phone will feature a number of features that are commonly reserved for tablets and are not often seen on smart phones. The unlocked version of the Streak will be shipping to customers with Android 2.2, while current Streak owners can look forward to the Froyo update rolling out throughout Europe this week. It is not currently clear when the update will be released in the US, but the company has said that at some point in December the update should become available.

The new colors are called “Pure White” and “Cherry Red.”The Streak has received critical acclaim throughout its history for easily blending the features that are commonly associated with tablets, and also providing features that are also used in regular smart devices. The addition of the Android 2.2 Froyo update is something that customers have been waiting for quite some time, and it is exciting to see that Dell has made it a priority to roll out the updates as quickly as they can.

For an extra $99, you will be able to purchase a 32 GB microSD card in the cherry red color to give your phone a little extra space to work with. The Streak is known for its quick processing speed despite the larger screen, but has been known to get a bit bogged down when the hard drive on the phone is nearing capacity. The addition of the 32 GB microSD card can help you to alleviate this problem without hassle.

New App for Droid and Imagio

It is hard to believe some of the things that our cell phones can actually do.  We have come from a time when cell phones were so big and clunky as well as so expensive that nobody could really afford them.  Now our cell phones are mobile offices, as well as a way to connect to the Internet.  Many of the functions of a laptop and our digital cameras can now be done with a touch of the finger by our cell phones.  Just take a look at some of the wonderful things that our new touchscreen smart phones can do.

Now the Motorola Droid unlocked cell phone or HTC Imagio can download an application that will enable it to function as a remote control for a TV.  We have had this concept for a while, but the folks at Verizon have just made it that much easier.  This new application will allow you to control your television through the FiOS box utilizing your Wi-Fi connection.  You will need to download the proper widget so you can set everything up.  It will even allow you to send your photos directly to your TV.

Right now it is only available on the Droid and the Imagio, but we should see it available for the Droid Eris, as well as other phones in the coming future.  When you download this app you even have graphics that resemble the remote control buttons just like the real thing.

A similar application is also available for your unlocked iPhone through utilizing the RedEye application.  Just like other similar applications, the new FiOS allows you to set up the recording of your favorite programs.   Now you will never have to worry about missing your favorite shows.  For those of us that often lose our remote control somewhere in that couch, at least we can now use our cell phones be able to control our TV.

Apple iPhone 3GS One Month Later

So it’s been about a month since the new Apple iPhone 3GS was released and a lot has happened.  In the past month we’ve gone from having a locked iPhone 3GS to one where we now have them software unlocked.  The last version of the iPhone took months for them to release an unlock, but this one took a matter of weeks.

The good hasn’t been without the bad.  Some people are claiming that the new Apple iPhone 3GS has heat issues.  Some are saying that it heats up too much and the white model can be discoloured.  So far the reports are few and far between and we, at PureMobile, have people in-house who use the phone with no problems.  So I guess to each his own.

Something interesting we have seen is in sales.  So over the last month PureMobile’s sales for the iPhone 3GS in Canada has been interesting.  As of today the top five cities that have bought the Apple iPhone 3GS Unlocked are Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa.  The first four aren’t really a surprise but Ottawa surprised us a little we really thought a city like Edmonton would rank higher but it was our nation’s capitol

The Edge of Your Seat Wait… Blackberry Curve 8900

This week we figured we’d back about the new Blackberry 8900 also known as the the Curve.  It’s not been released yet but after the disappointment that the Storm left people are really looking forward to the new curve.  The older curve (8300) was a big success and was actually one of the most popular.  To this day we at puremobile.ca have that as a top seller.

Now about the Blackberry 8900 Curve.  The one thing lacking is 3G, but it does have a fast EDGE and Wi-Fi.  It looks like a smaller version of the Bold 9000 but since it hasn’t been released (except in certain European markets) no one has actually really had any hands on with the phone yet.

It does come with the newer operating system that is similar to the Blackberry Bold 9000.  So it’s a very clean fast interface that should prove to be quite reliable.

In the end as we said it’s still not officially released.  There is hopes that it will be out by Christmas but no one is sure of a North American release.  It has come out in Germany but the truth is they use a different keyboard layout so it’s not even worth trying to get it unlocked.

For now all we can do is wait.  As soon as www.puremobile.ca gets one we’ll post a full review.
