All of the focus lately has been on the applications available for download from Google and Apple, but did you realize that Nokia is also experiencing great success through their applications store.  Nokia has just released some very interesting information regarding Ovi, the application store.  Ovi was started nine months ago in May 2009.  Since that time, they are able to function on many different mobile devices.  Of the 100 handheld sets that can be used, 60 or more use Symbian.  The most common touchscreen phones to utilize the application store are the Nokia N97, 5800 ExpressMusic and the 5530 XpressMusic mobile phones.

By the end of February 2010, the average person, who has registered, has downloaded 12 applications per day.  In addition to this, the Ovi store has more than doubled new users in February this year as opposed to January.  In comparison with the Apple store downloads for the iPhone, it may seem that the Ovi store is extremely far behind.  The iPhone app store has about 30 million downloads a day and that is the equivalent of 350 downloads per second.  The Ovi store is averaging just over 1.5 million downloads or 22 per second.  It must be remembered, however, that the Apple store started in July of 2008 and Nokia does have some catching up to do.

The countries that have downloaded the most include France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Indonesia, Russia, as well as Saudi Arabia and Turkey.  Since it does not have a huge presence in the United States as of yet, the European market and Asian markets has generated much of the success for the Ovi application store.  It will be interesting to see if Nokia begins to enter the North American market with a bigger presence in what that will do for their applications store.  For all of those North American mobile phone users, you can always purchase a Nokia unlocked cell phone in order to take advantage of the many applications in the Ovi store.

If anyone ever tells you cannot get anything for free then they do not know about the new Nokia software application download. For a short time you will also be able to download the driving game for Ovi Maps at no additional charge. You may want to take advantage of this fast as they may not offer it for very long. It uses Symbian and you can get the game through the Ovi Store. The game allows you to make your race course through using the maps. You just get in the car of your choice and start your race.

The Nokia 97, Nokia E52 as well as other navigator supported mobile phones are compatible. You can also visit the Nokia website and browse for other devices that are supported. It is a great Navigation download that has many of the features that has made Nokia Ovi Maps so successful. Check it out and download it, especially considering you will not have to pay anything for it.
