Remember the good ole feature phone days when your little Nokia cell phone or Motorola cell phone would hold a charge for two or even three days? Those battery expectancies have decreased with the adoption of unlocked smartphone handsets. Not only are these powerful devices armed with incredible amounts of space and storage, but they have zippy quad-core processors to keep your experience as instantly gratifying as possible.
This means we can exchange email and all matter of SMS and MMS communications, play Angry Birds, stream videos, and play or stream music –all on a smartphone. There is plenty of additional functionality to put on the list, but the fact remains: our heightened use and amped up power of these devices means our batteries are lucky to last through the day without a little extra juice. Discover an extensive selection of the latest lithium technology replacement cell phone and wireless devices batteries. Ensure your device is powered by brand name batteries for longer operating life.
Consumers are not willing to have a dead device in hand, so peripheral accessory and smartphone manufacturers are coming up with solutions. There are spare batteries for sale as well as desktop chargers, wall chargers and car chargers to have on hand, and even laptop, backpack, and other bags that will act as stylish multi-device charging systems. For an airport rat like myself, these options are a necessary evil to ensure I can get boarding passes, communicate with customers, and just reassure Mom I’ve made it home safe.
But does this have to be a necessity? Samsung doesn’t think so. So, they have made a resolution of sorts for 2012 to improve battery life where it will last all day. This was a bit of news we were privy to at CES when Samsung’s VP of product innovation, Kevin Packingham, was interviewed. He stated, “when you wake up to when you go to bed, we don’t want you feeling anxiety about your battery life.”
For hyper-usage customers, the additional battery sources and charging accessories will still be a necessity, but Samsung is taking a multi-prong approach where they will manufacture larger batteries, enhance manufacturing processes, and also address how their devices connect to the LTE radio and constantly search for Wi-Fi signals.
No doubt, Nokia cell phone Lumia 900 made quite an impression at CES, but another (non-Samsung and non-Apple) smartphone contender made waves as well. That is Sony Ericsson’s Xperia S. Taking the approach of tailoring and optimizing software to the hardware, Sony has taken the familiar and effective Gingerbread OS and made a device that runs incredibly smoothly and also has the look and feel of a great smartphone.
Like the Nokia Lumia handsets, the Sony Xperia S smartphone is made of a single piece of high density polycarbonate which feels substantial and appears chic and modern. It also serves as a great frame to the 720p screen that uses the Sony Bravia Engine and fuses the LCD glass to bring down reflections. Let the latest in trend setting fashionable accessories express your unique style! Discover an extensive array of award-wining design protective cases and skins deliver modern style, stunning design and smart protection. Make your mobile devices stand out. Customize your look – how cool can you be?
Another impressive feature is this handset’s camera. For what it lacks in flashy new Android OS updates, a 12 megapixel rear facing camera that can be used with just the press of a side button – even when the phone is turned off! Incredibly zippy, this camera goes from zero-to-shutter in less time than the Galaxy Nexus. And, the photo quality far surpasses the competition as well.
Unfortunately, Sony Ericsson opted to use the Snapdragon S3 chip instead of the S4. Also disappointing is the lack of LTE on this device (which the manufacturer doled out to its AT&T exclusive Xperia Ion in the US). There are rumors that an LTE Sony phone will come Canada’s way in Q3, but in tech terms that is quite a ways out.
Some silver lining to the LTE regret is Sony will be bundling Video Unlimited support and the Xperia S is Playstation Certified which is great news for gamers who will have access to an ever growing number of PSOne games. This makes a case for purchasing better earpieces and headphones, speakers and additional MicroSD Memory cards to get the most of the device investment.
Canada should see this smartphone hit the market in March or so, but actual release dates and carrier availability are bound to follow, so keep tuned!
Let’s be honest, the latest hero device from the Nokia cell phone line-up, the Lumia 900 wowed spectators at the CES. From the keynote Microsoft address that showed an impressed audience the fruits of its partnership with Nokia and how the device works with Microsoft peripheral devices like the Xbox. The stellar performance of the Nokia Lumia 900 was duly recognized by CNET which named the smartphone as its category winner at the 2012 CES.
The move from Symbian to Windows mobile OS and the added bonus of BlueStack’s technology which will bring Android apps to those customers has sparked excitement and hope into both Nokia and Microsoft that 2012 will bring a 180 degree shift in sales and market share.
What is better news is that the vague announcement that the Nokia Lumia 900 will be available in “the next few months” may be whittled down to a more accurate date if the rumor mill is based in any kind of truth. Even more reliable is that the March 18th date is being bandied about by Windows gurus Paul Thurrott and Mary Jo Foley. These two “all about Windows” people came together to work on TWiT and discuss March as the release month in the latest Nokia developer newsletter.
Mister Thurrott is apparently not one for vagueness by making it clear that the Nokia Lumia 900 will be released precisely on March 18th. Hopefully his crystal ball or tea leaves are accurate as anxious customers are bound to seek out this sleek unlocked cell phone as soon as possible.
Surely the smartphone manufacturer will make more accurate announcements that will include date of availability, the cost, and start touting more of the peripheral accessories that will heighten the handset’s popularity and longevity in a fickle, competitive and ever changing mobile tech market.

In an era where patents are sold and bought like commodities in lieu of protecting intellectual rights; and where mall innovators are snapped up for their technological visions and execution, – HTC is a wonder to behold. The rising star of the smartphone world has « arrived. »
Ten years ago HTC couldn’t even be considered a boutique cell phone to set yourself apart from the mundane crowd of Motorolas and Nokias. It was, however, a company earning its chops manufacturing hardware for Windows Mobile-powered devices for household names like Compaq and XDA. Now HTC is manufacturing the Raider, Amaze and Desire line of cell phones coupled with a plethora a innovative protective solutions and premium electronic accessories
HTC’s big break came in 2008 : with the Android. The Dream and G1, which launched the brand into the periphery of the ever growing smart phone consumer market. Its years as a technological innovator for Windows helped carve a niche and secure a market notoriety for cell phone and mobile accessories.
The following video provides an excellent account of The Quietly Brilliant Story of HTC

A day after RIM chief Mike Lazaridis made the official announcement that BlackBerry would be coming out with a white BlackBerry Bold Nokia followed suit with their own announcement of a pale hued E72. Coming with a skinned UI to match the externals the new handset is being announced alongside a firmware update that will improve Ovi Maps, social networking integration and allow for location sharing through Facebook. Internet radio of an unspecified variety has been included as well along with general performance and stability improvements.
Seeing as how the E7x series from Nokia is the closest competitor to the BlackBerry businessphone line it would make perfect sense that Nokia would come out with a white colored device on the heels of RIM’s announcement yesterday. The E7x series from Nokia is strikingly similar to many of BlackBerry’s devices that are targeted for the business crowd. This updated color is just a small part of the enhancements that Nokia made to their E7x series. The various updates included with the new firmware is sure to make the Nokia E7x series that much more enjoyable for the consumer. Much needed improvements to Ovi Maps and enhanced social networking integration will make these mobile devices from Nokia that much more appealing to mobile phone consumers.
Many of the updates to the firmware that Nokia has just implemented were well overdue. Many of the updates surrounding Facebook will certainly be a nice addition to this business minded cell phone. While the E7x series will continue to cater to the business professional it will now include more features that will also allow this device to be used in one’s personal life to keep up with the various social networking websites that are becoming so popular these days.
All of the focus lately has been on the applications available for download from Google and Apple, but did you realize that Nokia is also experiencing great success through their applications store. Nokia has just released some very interesting information regarding Ovi, the application store. Ovi was started nine months ago in May 2009. Since that time, they are able to function on many different mobile devices. Of the 100 handheld sets that can be used, 60 or more use Symbian. The most common touchscreen phones to utilize the application store are the Nokia N97, 5800 ExpressMusic and the 5530 XpressMusic mobile phones.
By the end of February 2010, the average person, who has registered, has downloaded 12 applications per day. In addition to this, the Ovi store has more than doubled new users in February this year as opposed to January. In comparison with the Apple store downloads for the iPhone, it may seem that the Ovi store is extremely far behind. The iPhone app store has about 30 million downloads a day and that is the equivalent of 350 downloads per second. The Ovi store is averaging just over 1.5 million downloads or 22 per second. It must be remembered, however, that the Apple store started in July of 2008 and Nokia does have some catching up to do.
The countries that have downloaded the most include France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Indonesia, Russia, as well as Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Since it does not have a huge presence in the United States as of yet, the European market and Asian markets has generated much of the success for the Ovi application store. It will be interesting to see if Nokia begins to enter the North American market with a bigger presence in what that will do for their applications store. For all of those North American mobile phone users, you can always purchase a Nokia unlocked cell phone in order to take advantage of the many applications in the Ovi store.
So today Nokia posted a press release on their website to announce the release date or sort of launch date of the Nokia N97. Now they haven’t said an exact date but they said it would be shipping in June. Likely that means toward the end so except it to be available sometime around June 30th.
As for the Nokia N97 itself this is the phone everyone has been waiting for. It has 32GB of internal, Wi-Fi, up to 16GB expanision with the MicroSD slot. This phone is being called the iPhone killer and I guess soon enough we’ll all know
Keep your eyes glued to out website. As soon as we have the unlocked Nokia N97 everyone will know.
Also we have a video brought to us by Nokia Conversations of actual factory footage of the N97 being made
So it has been officially announced. The new Nokia N97 is scheduled to come out in the first half of 2009 and everyone is waiting on the edge of their seats. Okay maybe not literally but people definitely are looking forward to the phone.
It is being called the iPhone killer and, yes, we know yesterday we posted about the Nokia 5800 which was giving the same name but the N97 is being called a Nokia 5800 on sterioids and rightly so. This little monster has so much packed in we are speechless. It comes with all the standard things we love in the N9x series of phones like being quad band and having the 5MP camera, but it has so much more. Unlike the iPhone the N97 has stereo bluetooth (A2DP) so you can use a stereo bluetooth headset to list to your music and it also has more storage capacity then the iPhone, up to three times for to be exact. The N97 comes standard with 32GB of internal memory and can be expanded another 16GB with the microSD slot. The iPhone comes with a maximum 16GB and no room for growth. Then there is the camera. Yes the 5MP is nice and again it is something that the iPhone doesn’t have, but even though the iPhone has only a 2MP the iPhone doesn’t do video. Well you guessed it the N97 does and it does it at 30fps which won’t replace your camcorder , but will definitely get the job done for those times you won’t have your camcorder handy.
Now like everyone else we’ve only seen demo units. We can’t pass full judgement until the phone makes its way to the public. We at Puremobile.ca will definitely have the Nokia N97 as soon as it is available. Keep checking our site for more information
Here at puremobile.ca we see a lot of “iPhone Killers” come and go. We have seen enough phones in the past year claim to be the downfall of Apple‘s top phone, and actual top selling phone in general, but today we might have a phone that can actually live up to that claim
The new phone this week is the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. It’s a quad band phone with 3G. It does have a European and North American version, so depending on where you are you’ll need the right version so you can use 3G there. It can support microSD cards and has 81MB of internal memory. It also has the usual inclusions like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB
The big stand outs of this phone are the touch screen and support for a 16GB microSD card which puts in on the same level of capacity as the iPhone, but unlike the iPhone the Nokia 5800 comes with stereo bluetooth. Yes that’s right you can get yourself a stereo bluetooth headset like the Motorola S9 and be complete wire free. It also comes wiht a 3.2MP camera and one of the nicest things is that it has up to 8hrs and 45 minutes of talk time. That means even while playing music it should be able to outlast the iPhone.
Overall this is a great phone. Will it be the iPhone killer that everyone is expecting… well the truth is we’re not sure. Either way you can pick it up at www.puremobile.ca
