While many users of the iPhone have been enjoying Sirius’ XM radio for a while now it will soon be an issue of the past as Sirius has recently announced that their XM radio subscription will be coming to Android devices, like the Nexus One “soon.”

While Sirius is not giving any specific dates on when you can expect this service to be available on your Android device a sign up page that went live recently promises that it will be “available soon.” The application itself will be free but you will need a monthly SiriusXM subscription to continue to use the app after your 7 day trial is up.
One downside to this announcement is for those people who are hoping to use this app to get their fix of Howard Stern, Major League Baseball play by play, NFL play by play and NASCAR radio. These programs will not be available on the Android devices due to “contractual rights things.” This certainly does lower the appeal of this app and signing up for the SiriusXM subscription it is not going to diminish my excitement completely.
Having the ability to play SiriusXM radio wherever you go is a definite appeal to getting an Android device and SiriusXM subscription. If you are a huge music buff this could be a real treat and a great way to stay in contact with your favorite tunes. Having the ability to tune into SiriusXM radio will make your Android device much more than just a cell phone and portable MP3 player. You will now have access to thousands and thousands of songs on your mobile device, such as the HTC Hero, anywhere in the world. I know for myself I will be downloading this app as soon as it becomes available in the Android market place.

Peter Chou, CEO of HTC, continues to cause quite a commotion with his various antics and comments. While speaking at CTIA on Wednesday Chou declared that the Nexus One was a complete success and will surly drive new business to HTC despite the shaky public reception it has received. For those of you that might be unaware when the HTC was first released it was to a somewhat unsettling beginning. Early customers reported 3G reception issues that damaged the views of various consumers. Lagging sales numbers clearly put the Nexus One well behind the DROID in popularity as well. Now these current issues surrounding the display have further damaged the phones reputation.

Chou also caused a stir with his reluctance to acknowledge any shortcomings with the phone. Instead Chou decided to focus on the innovative design of the Nexus One and the experience HTC gained when developing the Android 2.1 device. Chou mentioned that HTC is quickly trying to leverage that credit associated with creating one of the first Android 2.1 mobile devices into becoming the top Android brand. While many critics will disagree with Chou and his statements pointing to the fact that the DROID is a much more popular phone amongst consumers Chou may not be that far off in his assessment.
I do believe that Chou and HTC have a learned a great deal and gained valuable experience while releasing the Nexus One. They will be able to utilize that experience and enhance any other phone that they may develop in the future. By knowing what consumers are looking for and what sorts of aspects they want working correctly with their mobile devices HTC will be better equipped to produce quality products in the future.

Google has had its share of major announcements over the past couple days. It has been reported that they have only sold 135,000 Nexus One units in the first 74 days that they have been available. This is in comparison to the 1 million iPhone units, and 1.0 5 million Droid units that were sold within the same amount of time. This may not concern the folks at Google as these numbers may not exactly show the whole picture. There were huge advertising campaigns for the Droid, as well as the iPhone, and we all know that Google does not necessarily spend the same amount of money on the same type of advertising. It is also assumed that their numbers will increase once they actually launch with Verizon wireless and Vodofone.

Google has also been involved over the past several weeks in negotiations pertaining to their presence in China. They have been involved in negotiations mostly centering on the fact that Google does not want the Chinese government meddling in their users searching. Google wants to be able to operate without having to experience any censorship. It seems as though they may be at a crossroads where Google may have to decide whether they want to keep their 36% share of the market. It will come down to whether or not they want to pursue their position on freedom of use of the Internet.
The other big news in Google world is that Facebook has surpassed them as one of the most visited sites on the entire Internet. This may not concern the gurus at Google, as the last company that was able to do this was MySpace and look at where they are now. However, some of these things may be something for Google to consider in order to maintain their number one position.
