Rogers Launches Chatr Wireless to Compete with Wind and Other Discount Wireless Carriers
August 5th, 2010There seems to be quite a race for the wireless service providing in Canada these days. Recently Wind had launched a no- contract wireless service. To meet up with the profits made by Wind on their smart move, now Rogers are picking up on the trick and launching their own no-contract wireless services in Canada today, which is to be called Chatr.
Chatr seems to have quite an inventory. Chatr has a lot of top notch cell phones in its list which includes the Unlocked Nokia 1661 candy bar for $60, LG BR125R flip for $75, Nokia 2680 portrait slider for $95, and Samsung Gravity landscape slider for $130. The schemes or rather the plans/ rates are at $35 a month and unlimited talk and the texting is at $45 a month. But hey! Don’t get too zealous hearing that ‘unlimited’ word. Nothing counts unless you are in their ‘specified’ zones. Once you step out of the zone the plans that you were acquainted with vanishes and are replaced with some whooping rates. The Chatr plans include cities like Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, and Ottawa.
But the big question is: how does Chatr fair in the competition? Wind has about the same plans but they do have an added scheme, which allows for free calling to other Wind Zones across Canada. But again the Chatr voicemail rates which is at $0.25 is much better than that of Wind’s $5/month as it’s already included in Chatr’s $45 a month plan. Not only that, the call forwarding and the 3 way calling option is much better for the Chatr than that for Wind.
Rogers is still calling all the shots and it seems it is likely to stay that way with Apple’s 4G iPhone unlocked handset is being connected through them in Canada but the small ones are putting up a good completion.
