If today's pick for Pure Mobile accessory of the week had a theme song, it'd have to be Gloria Gaynor's 'I Will Survive.' This isn't the first time we've talked about Griffin's amazing line of Survivor cases. The top mobile accessories maker already makes the ultra tough model for iPhone and iPad. But now they've brought the multi-layer protection of the Survivor to the iPad mini.
Like all Griffin Survivor cases, the iPad mini model has a military-grade design – seriously, this thing meets the standards of the U.S. Department of Defense. Its shatter-resistant polycarbonate internal frame can survive a 6' drop on concrete, and its silicone outer layer blocks vibrations; in testing it handled 18 hours of 20 to 2,000 Hz.
It also offers amazing protection from sand and dust, with hinged plugs for sealing ports when they're not in use. If it can withstand an hour at 18 m/sec, it can probably take on the lint and mystery dust that lives in the bottom of your bag.
But if you really want to know how tough the Survivor is, you just have to ask someone who's had their device saved by one. One buyer posted his own epic story to Griffin's Facebook page, recounting how his case saved the day when he accidentally left his iPad on the roof of his car:
"[...] Even that rubber case couldn't grip the roof at 65+mph! As I heard it flip off the roof I caught sight of it spinning behind me trying to catch up but given my speed and its deceleration the survivor did a 90 Degree turn across 3 lanes and came to rest under the guard rail near the backside of fenway."
When his friends went to retrieve the iPad the following day, there was no damage to the iPad and only one corner of the Survivor case was cracked. That's pretty tough stuff.
As the old adage goes, good things come in small packages. But with Griffin's Survivor case for iPad mini, they can also come in seriously rugged, military tested, ridiculously resistant packages.
