Most BlackBerry fans would be ecstatic to hear that Research In Motion is developing a BlackBerry Dual-Core phone, presumably for release sometime later this year. The Canadian company did not have any Dual-core phones for viewing at the Consumer Electronics Show, but the CEO of Research in Motion, Mike Lazaridis did state in an interview that the company was already in the process of developing a high powered dual-core unlocked BlackBerry phone. Apparently the company felt a little left out with all of the high power dual core phones that were announced by various companies during the conference.
Time is money in the business world, and unlocked BlackBerry phones are designed and marketed directly for business applications. So while these users crave the speed that BlackBerry confirmed it was working on, I wouldn’t get your hopes up for a release any time soon.
Lazaridis went on to say that the dual core phones are too hard on the batteries of phones for current BlackBerry models and said that users should not expect a release any time soon. Battery life is one of the features that BlackBerry has put a focus on in recent years, so adding a dual-core processor that puts a lot of strain on the battery is apparently not in the best interests of the company. It will be interesting to see how they make this transition. Perhaps they will develop a completely new model of BlackBerry and take the necessary precautions to make sure that the battery life is not as negatively affected as Lazaridis seems to think they will be.
A dual-core powered BlackBerry phone would definitely have a market among the BlackBerry users, who are constantly looking for ways to increase the speed of their phones. At this time, BlackBerry phones are the premiere business phone and are used by corporations around the world for effective communicating - even while not on the job. RIM is a company that tends to give their users what they want, but are they willing to budge on the battery issue?
PureMobile carries a wide range of unlocked Blackberry phones and accessories such as Blackberry Curve 9300 unlocked, Blackberry Torch 9800, Blackberry Bold 9780, etc…
