iPad Book Apps Experience Problems, Google Books Removed

iPad Book Apps Experience Problems, Google Books RemovedThe iPad Book applications have been experiencing some problems recently. At the beginning of the year, the company said that they were looking to ensure that 30% of everything was sold through the iPad platform. This would allow for people to sell books, various downloadable pieces of content, magazines that could be utilized by the iPad, and just about anything else. However, along with rules for their subscriptions, users had to go through Apple themselves, and were not allowed to go through a website in order to complete the transaction. The company said that they were looking to get rid of the external Web stores that existed on the iPad, and the Web stores for devices such as the Kindle and Nook have been drastically altered or completely removed from the system.

Now, these devices can no longer gain access to their web-based bookstores, and do not allow for iOS users such unlocked iphone 4, ipad, etc. to create accounts from within. As of right now, only users with current book accounts are going to be able to utilize the various stores in order to make purchases. It will be interesting to see if Apple continues to take the straightforward and drastic approach to various other bookstores other than their own.

Also, the Google Books app is completely missing from the iTunes store. This probably means that they are going to be doing a complete overhaul of the application, or could even be doing it just to gain an edge within the market, although that is unlikely. It is interesting to see them take this very hard-nosed stance as far as selling content through their medium. This could definitely turn off a number of developers from working with them, especially when Android seems to be allowing the same developers to sell their platform. It will be interesting to see if Apple continues the stance, or if they make changes in the future.
