Google Branded Phone: Will the Coming Year Bring Its Release?
December 3rd, 2009In June of 2008, Gary Krakow foretold release of Android, Google’s Smartphone system, by the end of that year. At the same time, he predicted as well the unveiling of a Google branded handset. While Krakow thought that handset would come out late in 2009, it now looks like the arrival of that handset will follow closely on the welcoming of 2010.
As the New Year approaches, Google continues cooperating with a Smartphone manufacturer. Google aims to have the company name on its own phone by early next year, if not sooner. Google plans to sell that phone unlocked through retailers, rather than through telephone companies.
Google thus hopes to jump over the hurdle created by the phone carriers. They have placed tight controls on the features and applications that are allowed on Smartphones. Google indicates that its new handset will allow users of that device to determine for themselves what functions their phone will be able to handle.
Of course, Google plans to offer more than an expansion of phone functions. It also expects to include exciting design features on its planned handsets. Ashok Kumar, an analyst with Northeast Securities has spoken with Google’s designers about their eagerly awaited handsets.
The new handsets will place Qualcomm chips in an attractive and adaptable new type of communication device. That device promises to become the new standard for connecting with the internet by means of some sort of mobile gadget.
One can expect TV ads for this new handset to air in the coming weeks. No doubt, those ads will show the user of a Google handset making use of a function that existing Smartphone users have, until now, only dreamed about gaining access to.
Maybe this year people will ask not to be given a Smartphone for Christmas, so that they can purchase one of the new Google handsets.
