Ericsson sells goes far and beyond with its millions of stations
August 23rd, 2010One of the world’s leading companies in wireless telecommunications infrastructure, Ericsson, have sold their two millionth cell site, it was recently announced by the company in a recent press release. The Ericsson RBS 6000 was deployed by the company to do GSM/EDGE/WCDMA and updated to take up only 25% of the space that the previous generations required, to an anonymous operator that has been working to expand the credibility of their mobile broadband capabilities.
The most intriguing fact about this piece of news is the time span between the sale of its one millionth base station, which was bought by MTN Nigeria in 2007, after Ericsson had spent 20 years in the wireless telecommunications industry. Now, only 3 years and a few months later, the company has been successful in selling its second millionth cell site, however the buyer is not exactly known and perhaps, will never be known. However, the world as it was back in 1991, when Ericsson first started off in the business is a lot different, with the market becoming more competitive with Chinese players like Huawei and ZTE, the merger of Nokia and Siemens and their acquisition of the network assets owned by Motorola. There will be 4 billion mobile users by the end of 2010. By the end of 2011, the speed of everything will also go up and wireless companies are the ones who will profit.
Motorola’s popularity increased after the release of their Unlocked RAZR and the graph seems to be assured of an upward venture with their Droid devices. Apple turned out to be the biggest winner over the last few years, coming out of the shadows of the leaders to win over the market for itself. More phones are being shipped to different regions of the world in a year than ever before and the trend will definitely continue.
