2012 RIM BBX Sets Imaginations Afire

December 5th, 2011

By Aldo Paneesidi

We love our mobile devices.  The latest technology! The greatest features! Coupled with the must-have accessories… designer cases, silkiest and most tactile skins and the fun gadgets!

The fact is that our smart phones are as much a statement as our clothing choices and moods to show the world who we are.

With this kind of identification and figurative connection to our smartphones, it is no wonder the cult of RIM is agog with speculation around the upcoming offerings for 2012.  The rumored specs have it whispered that it is likely thinner than the iPhone, includes a 1.5GHz TI OMAP dual-core processor, 1 GB RAM, 16 GB storage, and an 8 megapixel camera.   BlackBerry will also release a plethora of superior protection and trend-setting fashion accessories for the new line of mobile devices.2012 RIM BBX Sets Imaginations Afire

The New Year promises an aesthetic refresh to pair with the BBX-powered devices.  Todd Wood, VP of Industrial Design painted a rosy picture noting that the new line is « charming, whimsical and fun. »  Accompanied by the latest funky protective covers to underscore the personality along with premium electronic accessories.

Potential names include the Colt, London and Surfboard.  There seems a disconnect between the abstract nuances crafted by the device designers and the marketing teams involved. One can only hope Blackberry users around the world respond appropriately and make their voices heard before launch.  Moreover, protect, personalize and enhance their Blackberry devices with brand name mobile accessories.2012 RIM BBX Sets Imaginations Afire

In fact, an enthusiast forum member of « Pootermobile” shared his own designs of what he dreamt up for the first RIM BBX smartphone.  The images below (named FS-1 and Sabre) showcase huge displays that bear a strong overlying resemblance to HTC’s Desire HD, but FS-1 puts true BlackBerry lovers seem to at ease with the much loved buttons and red LED indicator.  Blackberry users have also shown much acceptance of recent Blackberry accessories.

And, if RIM falls short of such lofty, spun-sugar dreams and expectations of its enamoured fan base, there are great accessories to bridge the functionality gap… perhaps a Blackberry PlayBook tablet to enjoy the best of both worlds of laptop and smartphone.

Fido Offers $10/Month 100MB Plan

August 1st, 2011

Fido is a company that is continually updating their plans to keep up with the ever-growing market within the country. The newest claim that they have announced might be their best. The company announced that they are planning to release a new $10 per month for 100 MB data plan that will first become available on August 3. A number of other companies have also announced that they are going to be offering this plan, and are subdivisions of Fido. Other brands that have offered this include Rogers as well as others. It will first become available on Rogers and may even become available on Chatr.

This announcement came from an internal document that was released mistakenly by the company to the Internet. The document gives an outline an overview of all of their plans and services, except those that will be for Blackberry devices such as unlocked Torch 9800. Fido has also stated within this document that they believe that the time is perfect for the upcoming Nokia C6 and the Samsung Galaxy Q to be a part of this deal. With these devices you would also be charged an additional five dollars for every hundred megabytes of data that you use.

A number of other companies including TELUS have had similar plans for quite some time, so this one is not really all that revolutionary when you look at things. Even so, it will be a great addition to the company and should be something great for many users to switch to. To say the very least, it will mean that many users will be able to save money per month, especially if they do not see themselves using a large amount of data. The company has made it clear that they are looking to add additional plans for the users that will make it easy for them to get great service at a discount price.

PureMobile carries wide range of unlocked cell phone and cell phone accessories such as Cases and Skins.

New Pizza Pizza App

April 11th, 2011

Have you been looking for an app that will allow you to order pizza from your favorite restaurant? There are already a number of them that are out there, but the new Pizza Pizza app is going to be one of the best. The new app really looks to suit the customer, and will be the first of its kind with a delivery count down app. Of course, they do not make any guarantees about how accurate the application will be.

The new app will allow unlocked cell phone users to complete their order with a single click, and set up delivery from a near by store without any real effort. The entire list of items on the menu will be made available on the app and should be fairly easy to navigate for most users.

The app was developed by Plastic Mobile for the company and is easily one of the best pizza delivery apps that is out other eon the market. When you set up your delivery, the countdown stars, and you are able to choose several different payment options. The payment options include cash at the door upon delivery, debt cards and credit cards.

It will be interesting to see how well received the app is. It gives you access to all of the different ingredients that he company has available, is smooth, and looks great! Pizza Pizza is a growing company and this app should help the country to continue to grow moving forward. Adding convenience should help both the users and the company, and the well developed app is a wonderful tool.

The app will only be available for the unlocked iPhone 4 for now, but is expected to be expanded to other operating systems moving forward. Look for a similar app to make a debut on Android sometime in the near future.

Nokia N8 will be Exclusive to Rogers

November 11th, 2010

The Nokia N8 will be a step forward in picture taking ability for smart and mobile phones. There once was a time when every picture that you took on your mobile device would come out blurry and would barely even look like the picture that you thought that you were taking. Now, you will never have this problem again, as Nokia will be rolling out their N8, which features a 12 megapixel (over twice that of the newest version of the Unlocked iPhone 4 )camera.

The camera will have a number of premiere features as well, including Zeiss optics, a large sensor that is found in many different brands of digital camera and a Xenon flash so that you can light up the surroundings during dark pictures.

The camera will also be equipped with the ability to record high definition video that will reach up to 720p in resolution. Although the device was made to primarily function as a camera, it does include a number of features that are commonly found in smart devices. The Nokia N8 Unlock comes complete with a touch screen as well as 16 GB of internal memory.

The Nokia N8 Unlocked will also allow you to watch videos through your HDMI compatible televisions. The phone will contain enough storage for you to record six hours in total of video playback time, meaning that you will not have to worry about the storage space when you are filming important events such as weddings.

One feature that many are excited about is that the Nokia N8 will also have a web browser that allows you to view flash based websites. It certainly is an interesting smart device, and will focus on its niche of users that are more worried about the camera options than the typical options of a smart device. A strong release of the N8 could lead to similar developments in the future.

How the iPhone 4 measures up to HTC EVO 4G

July 5th, 2010

Several smartphones have been launched over the summer this year – Apple’s unlocked iPhone 4 in June and EVO 4G in March. There are staunch supporters for the brandname associated with each handset, which has resulted in quite a few videos on the internet meant to spark off the rival camp. On the other hand, if one is more interested in mobiles rather than a specific brand or carrier fandom, then these videos are more a hilarity than anything else!

Andriod based HTC Unlocked ( EVO 4G ) has several features in its favour: a massive 4.3-inch touchscreen, the ability to make video calls without the need for Wi-Fi connectivity. The EVO boasts an 8-megapixel camera in the rear capable of HD-quality video recording, as well as a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. Both of these have a higher resolution than their iPhone counterparts. Probably its most telling point agains Apple’s iPhone is the 4G or WiMax capablity, though you are not really likely to be using it as this technology isn’t available worldwide as of now.

Moving on to the iPhone 4, its 5-megapixel image-sensing cameras are of a much better quality than the EVO 4G’s. Phones running the Andriod operating system have a habit of force-quitting applications. As such, Unlocked iPhone 4′s iOS is much more robust and reliable in comparison. Going by the specs sheet, the iPhone has about two times the batter life than that of the EVO’s. Upon practical usage, the iPhone battery life may be more than thrice than  smartphone offering. And although it’s screen is smaller when compared to the EVO, the iPhone 4 posesses a truly impressive 960×640 “Retina Display” which produces a breathtaking visual clarity.

So to which camp do you owe allegiance – the iPhone 4/iOS or HTC EVO/Andriod? If you are still in two minds, maybe the videos may help you decide.

June 18th, 2010

Twitter now has location-services enabled

June 18th, 2010

Just imagine that you have thousands of followers on Twitter and you want them to know what exactly you are doing, even if you are simply eating a sandwich. Well now this is possible as you can enable location services with Twitter allowing your followers to know your every move. With the Places feature of Twitter, it now has becomes possible to add greater context to your tweets by allowing you to type in a location as well.

For instance, if you plan on watching the World Cup, others will now be able to find out whether you are watching the World Cup sitting at home, or in a local coffee shop. In case you are worried about privacy, don’t be as this feature asks you for your prior permission. This feature will soon be released by Twitter for users of Google’s Unlocked Nexus One android, the iPhone as well as BlackBerry users.

Says a spokesperson of Twitter, “We are very happy to announce that we have now been able to integrate Twitter Places for our users. Users can log onto Twitter.com or mobile.Twitter.com to access it. In fact, it is now even possible for users to tag specific places such as stadiums in South Africa for the 2010 World Cup. There is also the ability of users to click on a Twitter Place within a Tweet, which will then show them any recent Tweets associated with that place. It will now be possible for you to see Tweets coming directly from the stadiums.”

Since Twitter Place also integrates with other service providers, it becomes possible to see which Tweets have originated from other applications on your phone as well. There is also talk of allowing Twitter Places to be integrated by other third party providers, although we might have to wait for some time for this feature.

Such a location based service is sure to give the millions of followers on Twitter something to cheer about.

Facebook to Become Location Aware in April

March 15th, 2010

In some potentially interesting news to Facebook’s 400 million users the social media giant announced plans to introduce a new location sharing feature that will allow people to show their current location.  Through Facebook’s news feed users will be able to share their location while also viewing the location of their friends.  Facebook also plans to make this feature available to third parties who wish to enable location features within their own Facebook apps.

While it is not exactly known how this new feature will be brought to mobile devices it is believed that Facebook will utilize the GPS functionality of phones such as Blackberry cell phones, Windows Mobile, Android and iPhone unlocked.  Using a mobile device’s current GPS technology will be an easy way for Facebook to integrate this new product for people to enjoy on their mobile devices.

Facebook has been working on a location based tool for close to a year but decided to wait until the product was completely finished and ready for use before making the announcement.  With the announcement of this new feature Facebook is once again proving it’s willingness to go head to head with global giant Google in the war for small business advertising dollars.  With the ability to sell advertising space based on current GPS location to small businesses Facebook is set to become a leader in the advertising world.  With more than 400 million users there certainly are a lot of eyeballs that advertisers would love to get their products and services in front of.

DAVE is Now Mobilicity

February 5th, 2010

Dave has finally chosen their new name for the brand. They were playing around with perhaps using fresh wireless but have finally settled on Mobilicity. They have a trendy new logo, and hopefully they will have a fresh approach. They are saying that they are going to offer no contracts, no credit check, and with the option for unlimited wireless.  This is good news for all of us that use unlocked cell phones like Samsung unlocked models.

Samsung Cell Phones

The company is approaching the cell phone market with a simple approach. They want to make things much easier for the consumer. With many of the companies offering all kinds of plans and the hard to understand options it has made for much confusion among people. It is hard to determine which carrier has the best options for text messaging or calling to your favorite five people, and even the different plans offering mobile to mobile free calling. With all of this confusion, Mobilicity wants to make things simpler for the customer.

They will hopefully launch sometime this spring, but the company has also hinted that the launch will happen when everything is in place. They want to make sure that everything is ready and there will not be any problems. Right now, nobody really knows any of the pricing for any of the plans. However we do know that the process should be very simple and clear cut. This is a breath of fresh air for the cell phone wireless market. Hopefully, this company will be able to deliver on what it promises. We know that they are planning on carrying Samsung and other top name brand cell phones.

As the weeks go on we will most certainly see much more information about pricing and plans. We will most certainly begin to see their new logo pop up, probably starting in Toronto and then moving onto Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Ottawa. The company should be successful with keeping to the simple approach.
