J.D. Power and Associates have released their newest Customer Satisfaction Study for Canadian Wireless Companies. They study looked at a number of different factors including their customer service and the retail experience of their workers. Some of the other ways that they rated each provider included the cost, network quality, as well as their ability to manage accounts and also offer promotions.
The results came in from more than 15,000 unlocked cell phone users. The study was completed between the months of November 2010 and February 2011. The other carriers that were listed on the study include Rogers, Bell, TELUS, SasTel, Koodo, Virgin, and Fido. A number of the newer companies were not included on the list as they were working with a bit of a disadvantage.

TELUS will be investing as much as $670 million in British Columbia throughout this year as the continually add to their networks and expand them. The company is looking to add wireless and wireline networks to their already impressive array of networks. The company has announced that $4 million of that total will be heading directly to Vernon. The Vernon population currently sits at 40,000 and some have wondered why the company would invest so much money in such a small area.
They also announced that they will be giving a total of $100 to every customer that activates new unlocked cell phones that is activated in the Vernon area through TELUS. The company was able to raise as much as $100,000 to go directly to a new branch in the Okanogan Regional Library.

A report that was recently published by the Convergence Consulting Group stated that they believe that the bundling of popular services (such as Internet, unlocked cell phones and even television) could be the wave of the future, and they believe that new entrants could be able to garner as much as 14% of the market share in the next three years.

TELUS has been aggressively expanding their business in recent years for the unlocked cell phones, and it seems to be finally paying off for the company. Shaw, a company that is based in Calgary will reportedly is launching their first wireless network for unlocked cell phones sometime in September 2011. The move has long been rumored to be in the works but no concrete evidence about the move was announced by the company itself. In a statement by Jim Shaw, the CEO of the company, he said that the company was looking to expand their technology and would also be planning a wireless launch for later in the year, officially confirming rumors that had been in the wind in recent weeks.
The date that he gave was pretty non-specific. Shaw simply said that they were looking at a “late 2011” launch of the new technology, likely because he didn’t want to horse-strong the company into a solid date that they had to try to meet. In 2008, the company reported that they thought that 100 million texts would be sent on the day of Christmas, and 100 million more would be sent on New Year’s Eve, with most of those people wishing others a happy new years. In 2009, they stepped up their prediction, stating that they thought that both numbers would double.
This year, they have really upped the ante. They think that 300 million texts will be sent on Christmas Day, and 250 million texts will be sent on New Year’s Eve. Last Friday Rogers announced that they had come to a huge agreement with the Government in Canada that is worth a total of $117 million. At the time, it looked as though Rogers had put themselves at a competitive advantage in signing the contract. None of the other large Canadian companies had made any announcement about similar deals and it looked as though Rogers had secured it for themselves.
Today, we learn that the situation was drastically different than was originally though. TELUS announced today that they had also reached a 4 year agreement with the government that is worth more than $45 million in total. Bell made a similar announcement today, saying that they had reached a deal that was worth $33.86 million overall.
