Canadian mobile network TELUS announced the immediate availability of the Motorola BACKFLIP today. The BACKFLIP is one of the more interesting smartphones on the market today. The BACKFLIP features a unique reverse hinge QWERTY keypad design with a BACKTRACK navigation pad on the reverse. In addition to this unique keyboard the BACKFLIP also sports a 3.1 inch HVGA capacitive display, 5 megapixel camera, WiFi, A-GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, 512MB of internal memory, microSD support and MOTOBLUR atop Android 1.5 easily placing it among the top of the line when it comes to texter friendly Android devices. The price for this device on the TELUS network is $249.99 without a data plan and a more reasonable $99.99 with a data plan and three year contract.

The Motorola BACKFLIP has been one of the better selling mobile devices in recent years. With its unique QWERTY keyboard the BACKFLIP is a very popular device amongst the mass texters. The ability to quickly and easily send text messages makes this Motorola device one of the best in its category. Throw in the fact that this device sports a 5 megapixel camera, WiFI, GPS, Android 1.5 and microSD support and you have one of the best smart phones on the market.
It really comes as a shock to me that TELUS did not already have the BACKFLIP by Motorola on its network. The Motorola BACKFLIP is just another Android device that TELUS is adding to its ever growing lineup of Android smartphones. This particular mobile device has been one of the most popular ones for Motorola, in addition to the Milestone, in other parts of the world since it was released. I am quite certain that many TELUS customers are going to enjoy the BACKFLIP and of the features that come with this smartphone.

The Spectrum Auction was developed in order to stimulate additional competition for the wireless industry within Canada. The government wants to be able to get better prices for the consumer, and in addition, more choices. They also want better services, with the latest cell phone selections and believe that competition will benefit everyone. With all the new companies entering the market, consumers are already beginning to feel the impact of the additional competition.

Wind Mobile and Public Mobile have already increase their market share, and some relatively new. Companies such as Mobilicity will be launching their services in the Toronto area very shortly. Videotron will be will be launching their HSPA network sometime this summer. Each of these companies will be putting the pressure on the top three, Telus, Rogers and Bell. In anticipation of such competition, the big three will also be doing everything they can to make sure their customers stay with them.
The prices have already begun to reduce and some of the fees are either being lowered or eliminated entirely. The big three are all waving their $35 activation fee and offering free evening services after six clock p.m. Bell is going to give $150 credit to any Wind customers that come back to them. In addition, there is a rumor that Fido will be doing the same. Even though prices are dropping and everyone are getting a lot better deals, you want to make sure that you will not get locked into a three year contract. This could be the perfect time to purchase an unlocked cell phone to avoid this type of contract. There had to be some kind give or take with all the price reductions and companies are looking to keep you for longer periods of time. It will be more important to make sure that you check every provider’s contracts extremely careful and watch out for early termination fees.

The British Colombia Supreme Court has granted Telus a temporary injunction against Rogers Wireless. The issue has been that Telus claims that the ads run by Rogers are not true. The ads from Rogers state “Canada’s most reliable network” and has speeds “two times faster than any other”. Telus has disputed these claims based on their recently introduced 21 mbps HSPA network.
Telus Corporation, a leading telecommunications company from Alberta Canada filed the suit against Rogers on November 12th, 2009 in hopes Rogers would stop its claims that it is Canada’s fastest and most reliable cell phone network. Several factors have led to the Telus recent decisions. Telus began upgrading its system and completed the transition on November 5th. The company believed that Rogers statements about its fastest and more reliable services were no longer true. Telus company officials had asked Rogers to stop using the claims. Of course Rogers declined to do this.
Believing that Rogers is making false claims, the company pursued the lawsuit. The lawsuit states that Rogers is making false statements and should cease doing so. Rogers officials have denied the claims and have indicated that Telus has no research or factual basis to its suit and looked forward to defending themselves in court.
Upon gaining its day in court, Rogers failed to supply enough evidence and documentation to support its claims. Rogers also admitted it could no longer claim to be the fastest network due to Telus’ upgrades. Rogers officials felt that they would win on the reliability issues but failed to convince the court. Therefore the injunction was granted to Telus. Rogers Wireless has filed an appeal. No date has yet been set for the appeals process. The company must return to the court on November 27 to begin determining how and when ads will be pulled.

Many people in the industry wonder if this is some kind of marketing ploy to bring consumer awareness to Telus with the upcoming holiday season. The timing of the lawsuit and the attention to network reliability will most certainly make consumers more aware of Telus’s services. With Telus’s recent upgrades, they are now able to offer the iPhone cell phone to its consumers, thus tightening the competition with Rogers and Bell. Bell is not a part of the lawsuit.
With the economy in such disrepair, consumers are searching for the best plans and pricing as well as reliable services and extended networks. With the upgrades Telus has made it has certainly put pressure on Rogers and the industry as a whole. Network speed has become a huge selling point for consumers who are now using smart phones as well as network coverage. Having the claim as the fastest tends to sway customers to that particular companies services.
With the attention of Teles suing Rogers over network claims during the holiday season, it is sure to have consumers question each companies merits and claims. Telus is seeking through its lawsuit for Rogers to cease its claims as well as seeking damages. Holiday shopping is upon us and the battleground has been set for cell phone companies.

The jury is out on whether Telus SIM cards work with all of the versions of SciPhone, HiPhones and other iPhone impersonators on the market. Since the success of the iPhone has been so marked, many manufacturers have climbed on board and produced replica cell phones that are similar to the iPhones in many ways. Some owners of an iPhone clone even insist that their version of the iPhone is better in many ways than the genuine artifact.

Telus is a leading communication company based in British Columbia in Canada. This corporation is one that provides a vast array of communication products as well as communication services that include, among other things, data and Internet protocol service. They do not currently offer services within the United States. Around the year 2000, the Telus company, through a merger acquired a Scarborough Ontario based cellular phone company called Clearnet Communications. This purchase gave Telus a place in the competitive cellular service market of central Canada. They offer SIM cards to allow users access to their cell phone services. What cell phones actually work with the Telus SIM cards is a question that can usually be answered by the cell phone service provider or found in the information that a customer receives with their cell phone purchase. If the information is not available, the phone manufacturer should have provided a way in which they can be reached to answer such questions.
iPhones actually have integrated SIM cards, which cannot be removed, so the use of outside issued SIM cards is not an option. Some iPhone replicas have their own SIM cards and others do not. For those that do not have an integrated card, Telus or other SIM cards ought to work with them, but one would have to check with the manufacturer of that particular brand of cell phone. An off brand cell phone is not necessarily similar in its internal mechanisms and technological features as the brand of cell phone that it is trying to emulate.

It was recently confirmed that the Motorola milestone is being picked up by Telus to begin service in early 2010 across Canada. The first Android 2.0 mobile will by lacking in one coveted feature- Google turn-by-turn navigation- but will come with all the rest of its lauded capabilities. This includes a touchscreen as well as QWERTY keyboard, access to the 3G+ network, and a variety of apps that have been gaining attention for their performance.

The Milestone was released in Europe in early November 2009, primarily in Italy and Germany through Vodafone and O2. The features of the Milestone, including a 5 megapixel camera with a dual-LED flash, media content managing devices, and sleek design, put the mobile in high demand in the European market. Known as the DROID in the US, selling 100,000 units during its first weekend, the Milestone is continuing to expand at a notable rate. The European model distinguished itself with a new multi-touch display, as well as the expected features of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
While the release date for the Canadian market and the official pricing have yet to be determined, the strong reception for the American counterpart may push Telus to make the phone available as soon as possible to prolong the excitement and drive up sales. The Milestone/DROID has been dubbed the “iPhone killer” due to its comparable features, good performance reviews, and competitive apps. The phone seems to offer every available feature, from media players, to a bar code reader, to the major locus for excitement, the versatile Google navigation system. Even without the Google navigation app in the Canadian market, the phone will surely generate positive buzz thanks to its other quality features. Watch for further information on the availability of the Motorola Milestone via Telus in the coming months.
