The Samsung Galaxy S3 has been the center of attention in the mobile phone blogosphere the past couple weeks. Leaks and rumors have been dropping left and right.  We comment on the more recent rumors surrounding everything related to the Samsung Galaxy S3.
Quad-core processor: The Korea Times reports the Galaxy S3 will feature a quad-core processor.
An anonymous Samsung executive has revealed a bit of news about the upcoming Galaxy S3’s Exynos chip. It comes as no surprise that the Korean manufacturer is using its own chipset for the flagship device. It has for past iterations, and this is what we were expecting.   LTE fans that demand Exynos will be happy to see a reaffirmation from Samsung  that it is gaining LTE-capabilities.
This is a major issue, especially within the US market place... wherein consumers,  have grown fond of the Exynos processors’ performance.   However, in the breadth, Samsung has indicated [...]

Anyone who keeps half an ear to the mobile tech world knows that Samsung is the vendor-darling of the Android platform and has released a number of handsets, tablets, and peripheral accessories that have done well with consumers. But the beauty of Google’s Android mobile OS is that there are any number of great smartphone manufacturers who make alternative (including unlocked) devices and give consumers more choice.
So, when looking at the handsets currently on the market, it was interesting to compare Samsung’s flagship droid, the Galaxy S II to Sony’s flagship droid, the Xperia S. They match up well in an apple-to-apple comparison (dual-core CPUs and 4.3 inch screens), but have some differentiators that will direct some customers to one device over the other. For example, the Xperia S boasts a 12MP camera and 720p screen which are upgrades ahead compared to the Galaxy S II.
    Leaving your valuable [...]

The Samsung Galaxy s3 was intended to be currently on display at the Mobile World event over in Barcelona, Spain. However Samsung later opted to decline the showing at the Mobile World Congress. In a strategic move... Samsung executives have chosen wait and give the whole world one big launch date, which is yet to be announced... although reports have it set around June of this year.   While we are still not sure whether this device will be launched as an unlocked cell phone or the related accessories to help protect, personalize and enhance its mobility... we do know that the Galaxy S 3 is slated for launch in over 50 major countries.

Regardless of this, it hasn’t stopped reporters getting their hands on all the specifications and features that the Samsung Galaxy s3 will have.  The details have fans frothing at the mouth and word of Apple iPhone [...]

Before feature phones could saturate the global market, we began to see unlocked smartphones creep into the picture. Given an inch, they have taken a mile. The growth potential for mobile OS and device manufacturers is huge considering the rate technology is developed and how eager the developed (and with China, India and African in the mix, the developing) world is to adopt the latest gadgetry that is intended to make our lives better and easier.  So even though there is growth expected from the major players in this industry, Google’s recent announcement with its latest Android stats is impressive.

Yesterday, Andy Rubin, the Senior Vice President of Mobile at Google wrote a blog that let the world know that Android saw a year-over-year growth of 250%. Daily activation of Android devices has significantly increased to 850,000 and the total number of Android devices globally to more than 300 [...]

Rogers is ramping up. With its LTE expansion in the St. John’s, NL area we are seeing the telecommunications company continue to push the envelope and lead the pack in Canada. As the carrier expects to bring LTE access to 20 million Canadians by the end of this year, it is also stocking its arsenal with 4G LTE capable smartphones to gain new customers and get new contracts signed.
Yesterday, Rogers officially announced that they will be releasing the HTC One X and the Nokia Lumia 900. As of a few weeks ago the latter was only rumored to be the next in line as an addition to their offerings this spring. Expect to see the HTC One X around the same timeframe (which will have the capability to use the HTC Media Link which is an outstanding accessory for this device).
If you haven’t read up on Nokia’s Lumia [...]

RIM is in the hot seat of bad press – once again!   Unfortunately for the beleaguered Canadian company, it involves its PlayBook 2.0, the long-awaited “second coming” of a BlackBerry tablet. Don’t get me wrong – a lot of issues were addressed in this next generation product, including the fact that the OS 2.0 on the PlayBook supports Android apps with the use of an emulation engine:  the Android Player.
While this is a pretty seamless end user experience - a full screen window opens and does incorporate many existing PlayBook featured including swiping down on the display to make the menu appear, there are some concerns being voiced from app developers.

For all those who are using Android phones, such as, Motorola DROID Razr, Samsung Galaxy S II, HTC Amaze, and the Sony Xperia, can turn to AppAware. They just re-launched a couple months ago with a completely overhauled version that turned the service into a social network for app discovery.

Perhaps the best ways to discover useful apps is to look at what people are actually updating, and not focus on which apps have the most installs. This is a good indicator of those apps having active support from their developers..
The following is the Pure Mobile Top 10 list of apps which were updated in the last seven days and received the most updates during that time period on AppAware.

Last December, Sony released an alpha Android 4.0 ROM... now they are regaling us with more ice cream sandwich goodness.  Sony has released the beta version of this ROM for select Sony Xperia devices

While this update comes with much more functionality than its predecessor, it still lacks very important features.   Some of the more prominent added features include activated GSM modem, FM radio, updated UI, beefed up lock screen and a quick dialer.  Being able to access GSM networks is probably the most important, consumer utilizing this  ROM will now be able to make calls... precisely what phone is designed to do.

Verizon may still be blushing a bit from its “free” PR blurb on Saturday Night Live the other weekend for its convoluted explanations and advertising of its 4G LTE network.   Luckily for the telecommunications giant, Verizon is looking to get a bit more positive press this week with the Android 4.0.3 update whispers for its Motorola DROID RAZR. And based on the leaked images to date, the details on the new user interface are much needed improvement over the most recent UI images of the MotoBLUR.
Watch this video for additional insight on the Motorola DROID RZR ICS

If you compare the images between the two Motorola devices, it is clear that the handset manufacturer has done an overhaul. Resplendent with the much touted Android 4.0, most of the custom skin has been removed to better let the ICS Holo theme come through. Motorola has made its mark on the [...]
