The SwiftKey X keyboard application will be completely free to users today on the Amazon application marketplace. The application authority raise quite a bit of hype surrounding it, and could probably be one of the best virtual keyboards that is currently available for your Android cell phone such as unlocked Sony Ericsson XPERIA Arc. For tablets, the application will cost $4.99 and will not be free on the Amazon store as the version for smart phones currently yes. The keyboard has been compared to Swype, a popular application that allows for users to more quickly text on touch screen phones. The dual core processor makes it one of the top performing devices within its class for its price range. Although many consider the unlocked LG Optimus 2X to be a midrange phone, it really performs more like a high-end phone. It continues to be a top-of-the-line device that is hard to match in most circumstances. The design of the device is great, and the sloping glass of the display gives it a very unique look. It does resemble some of the previous LG Optimus devices, but does have a number of things that set it out. First of all, one of the biggest draws to the device for many users has been the HDMI output. Using the HDMI output will make the phone very easy to use in conjunction with a television set.

In all, there are a number of things to like about the device. First of all, it has an eight megapixel camera, and that’s full megapixels, making it one of the best cameras built into a smart device in the mobile industry today. The high 1080 P. video that can be captured from the video camera also sets the device apart. In all, the LG Optimus 2x unlocked elevates the benchmark for hardware and mobile devices. It is a top-of-the-line device that is easy to use, and should be able to meet your needs moving forward.

Cell Recycling Program Debuts in Alberta

June 14th, 2011

The Recycle My Cell program that has been run by the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association is now in Alberta. For users that would like to recycle their old cell phone there are now a number of options available to them. There are a total of 574 locations in which you can drop off your phone throughout Alberta. These locations are in more than 78 different communities throughout the area. A total of 15% of residents throughout Alberta currently recycle their cell phone, but that number is expected to increase at a rapid rate by the year 2015. There are a number of economical benefits that are provided to users that choose to recycle their unlocked cell phones.

The program has been successful in other locations throughout Canada since it first debuted. Every time that you recycle your phone the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association has stated that they will make a donation to a number of different charities that they have on their list. Some of the charities that are currently on the list include Food Banks Canada, Tree Canada, and World Wildlife Fund, among others.

If you are interested in recycling your cell phone you might want to look into the benefits. Dumping of cell phones in regular trash bins can make for some very serious environmental effects and someday in the future it might be mandatory for all users to recycle their devices if they are given the option. Watch for other recycling programs to appear in the future now that this one has become successful enough to spread in such a quick manner. The Recycle My Cell program is the largest cell recycling program in all of Canada and is expected to grow moving forward as well. I will be interesting to see what kind of changes are made to the program moving forward to drum up more interest.

Droid Charge To Receive Wireless Charging

June 9th, 2011

The HTC Thunderbolt was the first device to receive a wireless charging cover, and it now looks like this may become quite the trend with phones. The new device to receive its own charging cover is the aptly named Droid Charge. The device will allow for their Qi-compliant inductive battery cover that was created specifically for the device. The cover itself will be quite heavy duty and will be created to also protect the phone as well as charge it. The new handset will allow for regular recharging when it is applied to a compatible charging pad. This is great for users that are tired of having to constantly charge their device and would like to have more options available in order to keep their device charged while they are out and about.

Verizon has not released the specific specs for the new charger, which means that information regarding how much weight will be added to the device are not out there yet, but you can expect significant weight to be added to the device. The form has a .46 inch frame. The company did announce that the new Droid Charge wireless cover charger will be sold for just $29.99, which to most is well worth the added convenience of being able to charge your phone while you are out and about.

Look for more devices to receive similar chargers moving forward. These types of additions are great for the person who is on the go and does not always have an AC adapter handy at the time. You can bet that these kind of accessories will only continue to grow more popular over the course of the next few years as more phones allow for this teype of technology to be integrated with the device.

Nearly Half of Women Would Stop Spa Treatments Than go Without Mobile

March 20th, 2011

A recent study that was released by MasterCard of Canada states that 42 percent of women would rather give up their spa day indefinitely than go without their mobile device for just a week. 24% of women said that they would rather give up coffee, while 19% said that they would rather give up exercise. Out of the options that were made available to the 2,000 some participants, it seems as if the Spa treatment was the least concerning to the participants.

The same women were also asked what they primarily used their unlocked cell phones for. Nearly 50% of these women said that their primary use of the Mobile device was to communicate with their spouse and other loved ones. 35% said that their primary use of their device was to surf and browse the Internet, 31% said that their primary use of their device was to stay in communication with their children. Other common uses included using the device for work, playing music, playing games and also making payments for items.

The survey was certainly an interesting one and goes to show that mobile devices in this day and age are simply a apart of the lifestyle that many are not willing to part with for any reason. The fact that nearly half women would rather never go to the spa again than give up their mobile device for a week shows just how much use these devices get and just how important the mobile device is to the average user. Other common answers for the usage reasons included GPS technology and finding directions and creating lists for grocery shopping and other types of shopping as well. Mobile devices are now ingrained in the culture, and this survey just goes to show how important they are to the average user.

Sony XPERIA ARC Review

March 15th, 2011

Sony has been aggressively pushing their newest phone, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Arc in the media, and it looks as though the device is going to live up to the high expectations that have placed on it. Although some view it as the little brother to the upcoming unlocked XPERIA Play, it certainly is its own device and does not feature any of the gaming related features that the Play will have. Sony has been aggressively expanding their mid level offerings for users working on a smaller budget in 2011 in an effort to adhere to more of the market in one fell swoop.

The design of the Arc is sleek, and is curved to fit into the human hand comfortably, which is a feature that Sony first released last year. The four inch touchscreen is very responsive and is easy to use. The Arc does not feature a physical keyboard of any kind, and instead only has a software keyboard for users to use. While the keyboard is responsive, as with any non-physical keyboard it is going to have its fair share of problems.

Running on Android 2.3, you might expect the Arc to have video chat functionality, but that is not present here despite the fact that Android 2.3 had that kind of functionality built in.

Overall, the unlocked XPERIA Arc certainly surpasses the expectations that have been placed on it so far. The ability to record HD video, and seamlessly play high quality video without issue will make this device a popular option for individuals that are looking for a mid range budget device with all of the functionality of the higher end devices.

It falls in line with and surpasses competing phones in the price range from recent months, and the quality provided by Sony Ericsson is undoubted. The XPERIA Arc is a solid offering and is bound to be one of the more popular smart device options from this year.

New Public Mobile Roaming Agreement

March 6th, 2011

As per one of the leading cell phone blog site, Public Mobile recently announced that they are going to be adding a roaming agreement for users in some of the largest cities in Canada including Ontario, Quebec and other areas in Alberta, BC, Nova Scotia and Manitoba. The first day that users will be able to star roaming is March 14th, and the service will be available to all of the current customers, regardless of their plan.

The prices for roaming are currently set at fifteen cents per minute to Canadian or US numbers. Users will also be able to receive international calls for $0.15 per minute. Outgoing texts will cost 0.15/per text and incoming texts will be completely free.

This is a move that has long been expected of Public Mobile. Some of their past customers were limited when they traveled outside of their own zone, which meant that they were not able to send or receive calls when they were in roaming areas. Now, those same customers will be able to talk and text people at a low cost rate, which is a big step up from what was offered before.

This will expand the area that they are able to cover and will allow them to attract many new customers. The company, in a statement that was released regarding the change, said that they were happy that they were able to offer value within the marketplace, and hope to continue to expand their offerings to new customers as soon as possible. The addition of roaming coverage is a step in the right direction for Public Mobile.

The company will likely continue to expand their roaming offerings in the coming months in an effort to provide more area of service for their growing user base. Public Mobile is quickly become one of the larger mobile providers within Canada.

Windows Phone 7 Multitasking Uses Zoomed Out Cards

February 16th, 2011

As the world waits for multi-tasking to be made possible on Windows Phone 7 devices such as unlocked LG C 900, we finally receive a little information about how it will look and work. Microsoft has remained mostly tight lipped about their plans thus far but did divulge that they were going to use screen cards in the same way that WebOS used them a few years back.

All you have to do is hold the back button and then you will receive a few different card like views of all of the apps that you are running. Choose an app that looks good to you, and check on the status of the app itself. The new system will even allow users to multi-task while playing games, backing out and pausing the game to check on the status of other apps.

Some have worried allowed that multitasking could put too much stress on Windows Phone 7 devices such as unlocked HTC HD 7. The operating system already requires that you have a hefty list of specs to efficiently run the system, and the multi-tasking abilities will surely add a little more stress to the phones.

Microsoft said that they did not previously allow third party multitasking because they had concerns about the life of the batteries. Those concerns seem to have disappeared, and users can look forward to Windows Phone 7 coming complete with multitasking features here in the near future. So far, everything looks great and the multitasking features appear to run very smoothly. It will be interesting to see how seamlessly the feature translates to some of the less high powered devices that are currently using Windows Phone 7 as an operating system. Needless to say, it is a feature that many have eagerly awaited in recent years and is a feature that most users will find makes their phone easier to navigate and use on a day to day basis.

RBC Announces New Entrants Garnered 34% of New Subscribers Q4

February 8th, 2011

RBC Capital Markets has released a report to their client companies that gives a lot of insight into the unlocked cell phone market at the end of 2010 during the 4th quarter. The report states that the Q4 holiday period was one that created a lot of competition and that a total of 210 thousand subscribers were added during that period. The new entrant breakdown shows that Wind Mobile was able to bring in an additional 85,000 subscribers during that period, followed closely by Moblicity with 65,000.

Mobilicity showed the largest growth. Just a year or so ago they were only offering subscriptions to users in Toronto. Since that time they have spread to other cities including Vancouver, Ottawa and Edmonton during that same time frame. If the numbers are as accurate as they appear, then that means that they were able to increase their subscriber base by a total of 64% over the course of just a few short weeks.

The overall market share for Rogers, Bell and TELUS is expected to drop an additional two percent over the first quarter of 2011 after a very prosperous fourth quarter of 2010. As a whole, the country showed an 8.2% wireless growth over the course of 2009 with a total of more than 24 million subscribers in all.

The data released by RBC Capital Markets is interesting to say the least, and showed that Mobilcity is a fast growing company that was able to seriously turn their efforts up at the end of last year to land some much needed market share. Their growth was huge in comparison to the growth of larger, more established companies, who even though may have garnered more subscribers, had a much larger market to do so in.

Over 4,000 Devices Donated To Recycle My Cell

February 3rd, 2011

As per one of the leading Unlocked Cell Phone Blog Site, the recent “Recycle My Cell Challenge” that was first launched back in October 2010 has been able to convince more than 4,000 people in total to recycle their wireless devices and various accessories that are used with the devices. This means that they have been able to collect more than 200 kilograms of wireless devices and various accessories since the challenge was first launched. The success of the program is not surprising, because many different Canadian schools participated in the program.

The schools that are able to recycle the most will receive a large cash donation that will go toward the green programs that the school has in place. Each school will also receive a smart phone that the principle will give to one student that has shown an amazing ability to lead throughout their time at the school.

All of the devices donated will be recycled safely, and allow the batteries to be used once again down the line. The Recycle My Cell challenge was started by the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association. They were looking to raise awareness regarding the importance of recycling mobile devices that you are no longer using. The associated includes a number of very prominent Canadian mobile companies including Research In Motion, Rogers, Sasktel, Sims, TELUS and Virgin Mobile. The challenge has been, on all levels, very successful and has certainly raised awareness about the importance of recycling your used cell phones and other devices in schools. Because of the success of the program, it would not be surprising to see future challenges crop up that offer similar rewards. Schools from around the nation participated in the program and encouraged students to recycle their cell phones to help the school raise funds for their green initiatives.
