The Apple Workshop: The iPhone 4

June 30th, 2010

The iPhone has gained huge acclaim in the consumer market, due to its sleek looks and plethora of facilities. The iPhone has been in use for 3 years, and its designers have worked really hard to bring in something new to its customers. The new arrival is the unlocked iPhone 4, which is touted to be the world’s thinnest smartphone, measuring at just 9.3 millimetres.

The iPhone 4 has a unique casing. It is made of aliminosilicate glass, which is used in the windshields of helicopters, and is unbreakable. The glass is ultra durable and recyclable too. It has been chemically treated, making it stronger than plastic, and resistant to scratches.

The iPhone 4 has a remarkable display, having an astounding resolution. The pixels are so small that they are not discernable by human eyes. It delivers very high quality graphics.

The steel band running the length of the iPhone all round, is not actually normal steel, but stainless. It acts as the antenna for the phone, gives the unlocked phone its rigidity, and adds to the sleek look of the phone.

The Apple A4 processor can multitask, edit videos and do a whole lot of other tasks at frightening speeds. And all this is done efficiently, and by using the least amount of battery.

It has a 5 megapixel camera to shoot awesome pictures. It can record high definition videos and can also shoot or take pictures in dim light with ease. The LED flash acts as a normal flash and also as a light to illuminate the scene while shooting a video.

With all these features, the Unlocked  Apple iPhone 4 is arguably the best iPhone to have come out of the Apple workshop, and it can be safely said that this Smartphone is above the rest in its league, and will take the world by storm.

Analyst: 77% of iPhone 4 owners are upgrading from other Iphone

June 29th, 2010

An analyst survey showed that 77% of the people who had lined up to buy the iPhone 4 on the first day of its launch were already using unlocked iPhone 3GS and were just upgrading from their previous Apple smart phones. It showed that 6% of the buyers were previously using a BlackBerry, 3% had a device like myTouch 3G and the second largest category comprising of 12% of users were using “other” devices.

The answer to this surprising revelation lies in the fact that although technologies like the 3G and 3GS caused improvements in the hardware of the smartphone, the Unlocked iPhone 4 was a class apart. It not only was sleeker in form with a stainless steel bezel as an antenna and looked better in the hands of the owner, but also felt like an absolute device of luxury. The use of the bezel antenna however led to problems with holding the phone. This was thought to be the primary reason why iPhone users were upgrading to the fourth version making it the biggest hardware revision in iPhone history.

When asked why they were upgrading to the fourth version some buyers like the one we met standing first in line at the Apple store stated that iPhone 4, being the only iPhone optimized to run iOS 4, was a major draw to them. It enabled multitasking, social gaming networks etc. Also schemes brought out by few service provider added to the frenzy surrounding the iPhone 4. The sharp brained Mr. Jobs & Co. let it be known that anyone having an upgrade date in 2010 will get the Unlocked Smartphone at their entry-level price on the day of its launch. A dedicated Apple worshipper therefore did exactly as he was told because it was seen from the survey that 65% of the first-day buyers of iPhone 4 were also owners of a MAC computer as compared to the 35% using a general PC, this considering the fact that people using a PC (Windows) vastly outnumbered those using an Apple desktop or laptops.

June 25th is when Public Mobile will launch in Montreal

June 28th, 2010

If you are located in Montreal, Canada and are looking for a switch in a network operator, there is some good news for you as Public Mobile is now planning on making an entry into Montreal. While it had already had a base set up in Toronto, Public Mobile had eluded Montreal for some time, but come June 25th, Public Mobile is planning on going live. Users will have the ability of choosing be5tween two different plans, viz. the $40 text and talk unlimited plans or the $24 unlimited talk plan. By entering Montreal, Public Mobile will now be able to have a total of 66 stores in the country.

While nothing is certain as yet, you can expect a few additional unlocked mobiles to enter the market as well. We ha earlier reported that it would most likely be in May that Public Mobile would decide to go ahead and offer Canadians various mobile offers such as unlimited text and voice calls. This has partly been due to Public Mobile receiving the green light by CRTC. If you plan on availing of any types of discounts that might be offered, it is best that you go ahead and decide to place your order as quickly as possible with Public Mobile when they set up base in Montreal.

Says a representative of Public Mobile, “Since we are committed to offering the people of Montreal all the right services they need, it is vital that we could provide a value conscious brand in the market. It is for this reason that we have decided to introduce out monthly $40 unlimited talk and text plan in Montreal. While we were supposed to launch in Toronto by late 2009, the city strike held up our application process by the DAS. Hence we decided to make use of 1,200 DAS nodes instead of building many towers. We hope to repeat this in Montreal.”

$0.07/minute is what Mobilicity is offering for calls to Pakistan

June 28th, 2010

Mobilicity, one of the leading mobile carriers when it comes to wireless connectivity in Canada, has now put many Canadians with relatives and friends in Pakistan due to their high call out rates. Earlier, Mobilicity had numerous countries on its list as part of its Unlimited Asia plan; however, recently they decided t get rid of a few countries from this plan. One of the main reasons for this, it was discovered was mainly due to the fact that there was much fraud taking place when users decided to call Pakistan. This has now resoled in Mobilicity offering calling rates to Pakistan at $0.07 per minute. However, if you want to avail of such rates, you must be a subscriber making use o the “My Wallet” feature. My Wallet is a pay-per-Use service introduced by Mobilicity.

When it first introduced various wireless plans in Toronto in May, Mobilicity also decided to go ahead and introduce a wide variety of unlimited plans, it knew would be able to benefit its customer base.  However recent changes have stripped down the number of countries where this service is now available. Says a representative of Mobilicity, “While in the past we used to offer such unlimited calling plans to countries such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan, we have now reduced this number to only four countries viz. China, Singapore, Hong Kong and India as we noticed fraud taking place in calls made to Pakistan.”

If you had already signed up for the service and made use of some of the remaining 5 countries, fret not as Mobilicity states that users will still be able to continue existing calls with these countries.

Mobilicity had recently created a furrow in the mobile market by hiring Joe Prodan as part of its list of executives. The previous VP of Finance at SIRIUS Canada, Prodan is sure to bring some much needed support to Mobilicity.
