Moshi VersaCover for iPad
  • This week we, at PureMobile, thought it would be good to announce a little about what's going on.  Like every year manufacturer's tend to release new products both accessories and phones.  Well this year we are proud to announce that we will be carrying the complete line of accessories from Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Griffin and iSkin

That means all acessories from Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Griffin and iSkin will be here.  All accessories for all their phones will be available.  This includes current, future and already released phones.  That means accessories for the iPhone 3G, Xperia X1 and the N97 will be available or already are.

What this means for our customers is better choice.  Not only will we be carrying all the latest phones but the accessories to go with them.  So if you are looking for a car charger for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 you can get the CLA-70.  If you want the car charger for your iPhone then you can get the PowerTrip from Griffin.

With many phones expected to be released this year and Sony Ericsson and Nokia expecting release some of the hottest with the N97 and the Sony Ericsson Idou there is no telling what the year will bring, but one thing is for sure PureMobile will have all your accessory needs.

This year at the Mobile World Congress Sony Ericsson announced the Idou.  Since we haven't had any real hands on with the phone yet we, at Puremobile, thought a brief discussion of the phone was due

The Sony Ericsson Idou looks like it will definitely be a top contender and the thing that really sets this phone out above all the rest is the 12 mega pixel camera.  The 12MP camera is the feature that is currently getting the most attention, but there are other features like a touch screen that looks to have been throughly tested to make sure it didn't feel like it was just put on the phone as an after thought.  Also the Idou will be working on the Symbian operating system.  For people who aren't sure it is the same one that is used by Nokia on phones like the N95.  This is a robust operating system that has a proven track record for quality.

For now the Sony Ericsson Idou looks like it will be an amazing phone, but like all new phones we won't know for sure until they are actually released.  The other issue is Sony Ericsson has not announced a release date yet.  So like everyone else we, at puremobile, are eagerly anticipating the release of this phone.

  • iPhone Apps for Spies on a Budget
Posted on March 12, 2009 by Pure Mobile

Being a spy isn’t easy, but having state-of-the-art tools makes it a heck of a lot easier. If you don’t have that bankroll of a major player, the iPhone can help tide you over, with the following nifty apps for spies on a budget.

Recording information can be crucial to a mission’s success. While voice recording accommodates more than just spies, it’s still a useful basic spy staple. There are other apps, like Jott, VoiceNotes, and Ecconote, that do the same thing.

    Google Latitude

Coordinate your mission with your contacts by having everybody’s location fed real-time to a Google Maps display. This app isn’t quite ready yet, but it is being developed.

An injury left untreated can slow down your mission. Get information about poison, choking, stings, bleeding, burns, and more. This is stuff you should know, but the app sure helps if you don’t!

    Google Earth

Far from being useful to only spies, Google Earth is still the poor man’s satellite support. See and read the upcoming terrain, and plan your approach.

    Safety Button

About to do something dangerous? This app traces your steps and saves them when you start up the software, and has one big help button to push when you’re in trouble. The app will then contact a chosen friend (asset, ally, etc.) with your current position.

    NATO Alphabet

Echo --- bravo --- zulu --- niner. Don’t look like a chump if you have to start busting out NATO alphabet code. Odds are you won’t use this, but it’s good to have just in case.

    Lie Detector App

Save time and try to get the truth. While lie detectors are about as pseudoscience as you can get, an app like this still might have a use.

    Change Your Caller ID

Fairly self-explanatory. Don’t let your number give away your identity, or rather, change it to what you need it to be.

    Edovia Linguo Language Translator

Settle quickly into a new country and translate important phrases to store for later. Includes Arabic, Bulgarian, simplified Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese (Romaji and Kanji), Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish.

Spontaneous Insight: People Search & Background Checks

If you need a quick rundown on a new face, try this app to do a background check, getting criminal records and other potentially critical information.

    Mobiscope: Video From Webcams

Turn your iPhone into a command centre, and monitor your video surveillance channels. No need for a sleepy guard with a magazine. Includes saved recordings, motion detection, and email alerts.

    Extra mention…

Shame this tool doesn’t actually work. Some functional fingerprint-based app could have been cool.

Feel free to comment some suggestions for apps to add, in case I’ve missed any!

  • Trying to Explain 3G
Posted on March 11, 2009 by Pure Mobile

3G or third generation phones are a new innovation in the field of telecommunication and these have many advantages over 2G phones in terms of speed and coverage area. The advantages primarily emanate from the fact that 3G networks allow for more efficient use of spectrum than 2G technology. Most of the high end mobile devices these days are 3G compatible and as the technology becomes more widespread almost all phones will come equipped with 3G services. Here are some advantages of 3G technology:

Cheaper Call Rates for Users: As the spectrum efficiency is more in case of 3G, more number of calls can be supported at a given time, this means relatively lesser call rates

Enhanced Security: 3G offers enhanced security both at the 3G network infrastructure security level and at the end to end security level. The encryption offered by KASUMI block crypto of 3G networks leads to better and stronger security than the A5/1 stream cipher of 2G networks.

Faster Data Transfer Rates: This is the most appealing advantage of 3G networks and 3G phones. 3G networks have the ability to provide data transfer speeds of up to 14.4 Mbit/s which is many times higher than that possible in 2G networks.

Advantages of faster data transfer rates include better download speed, better upload speed, and faster surfing speed. 3G technologies need the use of 3G phones. Backed by the strong 3G technology, 3G phones have a lot of applications to offer, here are some tasks that can be performed by 3G phones:

    Some applications of 3G phones

Downloading: Downloading time is drastically reduced with a 3G connection and even large files can be downloaded in seconds.

Online Media: This is an exciting avenue that 3G phones offer; one can now enjoy online music, play online games and watch online movies on the cell phone.

Video conferencing: Video conferencing can now be done over the phone and the option of video conferencing on the go makes this feature even more exciting.

Faster Internet Connectivity: A 3G phone can provide high speed internet connectivity for personal computers and laptops. The phone can be used as a modem with the computer or laptop to instantly surf the internet.

One thing to remember is to check the bands of 3G phones.  In North America we need to have a 850 HSDPA band to be able to use the phone.  If your phone doesn't have that band it will not use 3G.  It will still work on the edge network but speeds will be limited.  In case you are unsure you can always check with us at puremobile first.

  • Cell phones have become a vital part of everybody’s daily life. People depend on cell phones for communication, entertainment, accessing the internet, keeping time and much more. Due to the increasing cell phone dependence, cell phone care becomes essential for its optimized usage. With preventive care and optimum usage, you can make your cell phone last for a long period of time. Here are some tips that can help you to take better care of your cell phone:

Charge your cell phone’s battery properly:  It is advisable to plug the charger appropriately into the cell phone while charging. This is essential for proper charging and functioning of the battery. Avoid overcharging of the battery and charge it only when the battery is very low. Keeping the charger plugged in when the battery is fully charged can adversely affect the life of the battery. Also, make sure that you follow manufacturer’s guidelines for best results.

Remove the battery when not in use:  Make sure that you remove the battery if you are not going to use your cell phone for a long time. Also, if you are traveling to a place that has no coverage, consider removing the battery or simply turn off your phone. If you don’t turn off your phone then it would consume a lot of power while searching for the network. You can also carry a spare battery incase your present phone battery runs out of power.

Keep the cell phone clean:  To prevent the malfunctioning of your cell phone remove the dust particles from the display screen and the keypad before charging. It is recommended to use micro-fiber cloth while cleaning the phone’s LCD screen. If you are using any liquid cleaner, avoid it applying directly on the phone’s screen; instead apply the cleaner to the cloth and wipe the screen gently.

Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures:  Exposure of cell phone to extreme cold and hot temperatures can affect its life drastically. Storage of cell phone in a cold place can result in the temporary loss of the screen display and the damage of the electronic circuits. Direct contact of cell phone with the sunlight for long periods of time can cause non-repairable damages.

Keep the Bluetooth switched off when not in use:  It is necessary to keep the Bluetooth switched off while not in use. Keeping the Bluetooth on can attract malicious viruses that can result in improper functioning of the cell phone. Also, allow Bluetooth communication only with the trusted sources and avoid accepting any files from the people you don’t know.

These are just a few tips that will help you keep your cell phone running in great shape for a long time and always remember that water is bad for you cell phone.

GPS navigation systems can be used to determine the position and direction of any object lying on the earth or near the surface of the earth. This system was introduced by the U.S. Department of Defense for defense purposes but nowadays GPS system is widely used by common people too. This navigation system uses a constellation of Medium Earth Orbit satellites (between 24 and 32) and a GPS receiver for transmitting and receiving information through radio signals. The GPS receiver can give important details about the object like its velocity, position and time. There are numerous advantages of GPS navigation devices to worldwide users. Some of them are listed below.

    Helps to determine your location

GPS navigation systems can be effectively installed in automobiles and cars. These systems can guide you to your destination by providing with the most suitable route for that location. Also, if you lose your way then GPS system can help you reach your destination safely and quickly. Just type in the address or name of your city or town the GPS will guide you through the route.

    Helps in auto theft prevention

GPS systems can help to safeguard your vehicles from thieves and criminals. These systems can monitor the location of your vehicle and can thus provide with the information about its whereabouts. You can track the location and even the person driving that vehicle through the tracking map available in the GPS car tracking system.

Helps to cut down your fuel expense

GPS systems help a person to drive more efficiently as these systems provide a person with the most efficient route. Thus, you can save on the petrol and turn on your fuel expenditures if you have a proper GPS system installed in your vehicle.
