The Edge of Your Seat Wait… Blackberry Curve 8900

November 27th, 2008

This week we figured we’d back about the new Blackberry 8900 also known as the the Curve.  It’s not been released yet but after the disappointment that the Storm left people are really looking forward to the new curve.  The older curve (8300) was a big success and was actually one of the most popular.  To this day we at puremobile.ca have that as a top seller.

Now about the Blackberry 8900 Curve.  The one thing lacking is 3G, but it does have a fast EDGE and Wi-Fi.  It looks like a smaller version of the Bold 9000 but since it hasn’t been released (except in certain European markets) no one has actually really had any hands on with the phone yet.

It does come with the newer operating system that is similar to the Blackberry Bold 9000.  So it’s a very clean fast interface that should prove to be quite reliable.

In the end as we said it’s still not officially released.  There is hopes that it will be out by Christmas but no one is sure of a North American release.  It has come out in Germany but the truth is they use a different keyboard layout so it’s not even worth trying to get it unlocked.

For now all we can do is wait.  As soon as www.puremobile.ca gets one we’ll post a full review.

The New Slide-Out Keyboard Phone From LG

November 26th, 2008

We have a brand new phone this week at Puremobile.ca.  It is the LG KS360 also known as the Tribe.  It brings back something that has been missing from phones for awhile.  It’s biggest feature is the slide out keyboard.

Now before I discuss the slide out keyboard let’s talk about the other functions of this cell phone.  It’s a tri-band 900/1800/1900 phone with a 2.4 inch screen.  It has a 2MP camera and comes with MP3 player and FM radio.  It even has a MicroSD slot that can be expanded up to 4GB for storage.

Now to the part that everyone wants the full QWERTY keyboard.  It’s nice to put it simply.  I mean it’s nothing too outstanding but it does what it is suppose to.  It is similar to the older LG9100 that was very popular a few years ago and this seems to be the replacement.

The KS360 is a phone a lot of people have been waiting for.  It puts the slide out keyboard back into a phone that is reasonably priced.  Up until now all the phones that have had this function have been over the $500 price point.  Pick it up at www.puremobile.ca.

8MP Sony Camera With A Phone

November 21st, 2008

This week’s new phone is the Sony Ericsson C905.  The C905 is one of the latest Sony Ericsson phones on the market and it comes with all the goodies you can expect.  Not the least of which is a 8MP sony cybershot camera

The C905 is a quad band phone with 160MB of internal memory that is expandale by a memory sitck micro (M2) card.  It even comes with a 2GB card in the box.  Along with the usual goodies you also get  a 2.4″ screen and even Wi-Fi for when you don’t want to be on the carrier’s network.

The included 2GB M2 card is great to store all your mp3s on which you can listen to with any wireless bluetooth 2.0 headset since it does have A2DP.  You can also use those mp3s to replace the tired ring tones.

Even with all the goodies there is one thing that stands out on the Sony Ericsson C905 and that is the camera.  This phone comes with a 8MP camera, which makes it one of the first, if not the first, to have that function.  With the camera you can offically ditch your digital camera and have your phone and photos all in one.  It takes really nice photos but does have some issues with the video function.  Although it does a nice job it still isn’t up to the level of an N95 that has been out longer and only has a 8MP camera.

Overall the Sony Ericsson C905 is a sleek and stylish phone.  At a price point that makes it a higher end phone it is definitely a phone that needs to be considered.  It’s a very good phone with an even better camera.

The Long Awaited Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

November 20th, 2008

Sony Ericsson has finally released the Xperia X1.  This is the long awaited phone for Sony Ericsson and with so many delays the question is does it live up to the expectations.

The phone is a quad band GSM phone that comes with all the bells and whistles you could want.  It has 3G for those high speed downloads while you are surfing the web on your phone.  If you are in an are in a wireless network area then you can log on using the Wi-Fi built into the phone.  It comes with a GPS system so if you need directions you don’t have to stop and ask.  Also being a Sony Ericsson phone it comes with an FM Radio and all the music functions you could want.

It is definitely a well designed smartphone.  All the extra developement time has made it a top of the line smartphone that everyone will want.  The integrated QWERTY keyboard is a nice function that gives you the ability to type rather then use a touch-screen system like in many phones these days.

Now the real con of the Xperia X1, the price.  At nearly $1000 it is definitely on the higher end phone budget, but with all the phone can do it’s price tag is nearly justifiable.  It can be a complete laptop replacement which makes travelling easier and lighter.

Our overall opinion is that the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is a good phone.  If you can get it now then it should be considered.  The price point is high but if you use your phone and laptop all the time this could be a great replacement.
